I'm not going to be able to imagine the main character as anything other than a gun-running biker.

Why use the same exact voice program as GLaDOS? I mean, it even cuts out and changes pitch. That's not exactly something ideal for what seems to amount to a female Jarvis.

It's apparently because he's a fan of Valve and Portal and stuff. It just doesn't seem very professional, putting a straight-up voice copy of a videogame character that you like in a 200 million dollar movie. It doesn't really add anything to the film either, since like you said, the AI is just an AI and not an actual character.

And plus, the voice chirping in and out doesn't strike me as "Oh, that means this isn't a person, but an AI" in this case. It strikes me as "Wow, this AI is so shitty that ALL of thE WORDS are disJOINTed."

It added to GLaDOS's character because she was essentially a telemarketer robot in charge of ground control for Chell and Aperture, and the disjointed dialogue not only separated her from humanity, but also gave the impression that she was a bit off.

I can see him being a fan and wanting to get Ellen McClain to do the AI for the film. But to use the exact same software to make her sound EXACTLY like GLaDOS comes across as lazy, pandering, and just really weird and offputting for a random booty AI.

Although, the main Jaeger (Their name for the giant robots) is supposed to be an old and obsolete one that is put out there as their last hope, so the disjointed speech kind of makes sense (Keywords "kind of") but it's still just taking the voice 100% from something and then sticking into something else.

I hope it's more like Evangelion than anything else.

It's an homage to old Kaiju movies so I seriously doubt it.

I expect the movie to be little else than giant robots fighting giant monsters. Story will take a backseat to rule of cool. Still not going to go see it, but my brother might.

Though honestly if they're going to take the whole "monsters from another dimension" route then go full hog and make the giant robots magical. Instead of punching they launch giant fireballs and lightning.

I predict this becoming distressingly similar to Transformers (Directed by Micheal Bay).

Giant monsters + giant robots = a very intrigued Chloe. *v*

Just hope there won't be too much graphic gore in it. For someone who loves monsters I sure am a gigantic squeamish weenie.

Is it because of all of the collateral damage, explosions and such? Giant robots fighting giant monsters brings a 100% guarantee of buildings and monuments getting destroyed, as many movies have shown. Destruction/explosions come with the kaiju/giant monster genre; you can't separate the two.

It can't have the qualities of two separate genres?

It looks like it takes some influences from anime, but I think Del Toro wants the main focus to be "Two pilots work together to pilot a giant robot and beat the shit out of giant monsters."

Hard to tell since trailers can be really really misleading.

Looks like just the megazord bits of Power Rangers to me.

That is completely okay.
