So what happens when the number of jewels hits zero, or at least very low? Because from the looks of things, Spike eats a lot of gems. So unless his appetite curbs or there is some way to make gems quickly, the number is decreasing faster than it can increase.

That's Future Equestria's problem.

They'll just have to go off the jewel standard.

The one thing that really annoyed me about this episode were the photos of Peewee at the start.
We've finally got an explanation where Peewee's been the entire time. Spike returned him! I get that the photos try to set up Spike as incapable of taking care of pets, but I feel it was a poor method to do so. In fact, I think the episode would've been a lot better if it had been what's shown in the photos. Think about this:
1. Spike tries to take care of Peewee and finds out they require special needs.
2. He does his best, but it isn't enough.
3. Everyone sees how much effort he puts into it, and suggests he return Peewee to Phoenix parents.
4. Spike Refuses and doubles his efforts.
5. Spike finally realizes he can't do it and sometimes it's best to just let go.

Claustropony was pretty neat.

I'm somewhat more curious to the season's finale, though, especially since I wonder how that whole Alicorn Twilight will work out.

OK

See

Everyone saying that's going to be a thing, but is it actually confirmed anywhere? I mean, yeah, the commercials really strongly hint at it, but I dunno.

Yes. It is a thing. There are toys and graphics and confirmations from show staff.

As for how it's gonna work out, I would say rather poorly unless she doesn't stay an alicorn past the newly confirmed movie. It just fucks with the dynamic of the show a bit too much.

I mean, what does she do now? She has no reason to stay in Ponyville besides her friends. Speaking of her friends, it kind of ruins the dynamic. "All of these girls are unique in their own special way except the booksmart one who is better than all of them and goes on to live a very successful life as a powerful ruler." Not to mention it's kind of off putting to just have one character be an alicorn just hanging around. Also this.

Toys. That's all the justification Hasbro has to give.

Also my guess is that the Alicorn thing is going to be something she can activate/deactivate.

On other news, I heard that the Fighting is Magic game got a Cease and Desist letter from Hasbro. That sucks, but Hasbro does have the right to do it. If it had something to do with a game where the characters beat each other up or do actual real fighting, then that doesn't make sense because they fought a lot at the end of Season 2 with the whole big Changeling battle.

I thought they could only do that if the game was making money somehow?

Though there is this thing where copyright/IP owners can call 'cease and desist' if they feel something is damaging to their IP - and 'fighting' is like, the opposite of 'friendship', I guess.

Does seem kinda silly though - in this instance.

What's stupid is that there's one MLP fanfiction called Fallout: Equestria that got a limited hardcover release (I do mean limited, I believe they were made-to-order), and I haven't heard anything about the person/group that published these books getting sued. I mean, using Equestria as the backdrop for a post-nuclear-apocalypse fanfiction sounds pretty damaging and not something you'd want your young fans owning or reading it via the Internet. Did some searching through a wiki and it seems that some of the main characters have their full unchanged names used in the books.

One thing that would make sense is that Hasbro just hasn't found out about that series. However, I've seen links to articles about it on fansites when I searched the fanfic's name, as well as it's had a limited hardcover release.. Another factor may be that 100% of the cheddar might have went to publishing costs so that there was 0 profit. Then again, that would still leave the whole "damaging to the IP" thing.

I understand that I just typed out a decent amount of text regarding the cancellation of a game where cartoon boners beat the crap out of each other, but I just hate to see so much creative effort go to waste.

While there was cheddar being exchanged with that fanfic, knowledge of that fact didn't go beyond the fandom. With Fighting is Magic, it was being thrust into the public eye by attempting to get itself into EVO2013, a fairly known and watched fighting game tournament. That's probably why Hasbro finally put forth a C&D. But yeah, like you said. All that effort going to waste. The animation and music were amazing.
