Araki is very, very, very, very not good at subtlety, especially in the first few parts

I finished Part one of JoJo

Starting to suspect that this Dio fellow is not the morally upstanding gentleman that he leads you to believe.

What are you talking about? Dio Brando is the most upstanding member of society. Also, speedwagon is best brojo.

I stayed up last night and binge read half of part 5. Kinda boring compared to the other parts so far, but I think that has a lot to do with the translation being bad. Giorno doesn't get enough screentime though, which sucks because considering who his dad is, you'd think Araki would explore his character a lot more in depth.

EDIT: I finished part 5. It was ok I guess. I'd say part 2>4>3>5>1. It felt more "enemy of the week" than part 3 did and it got to where I just skimmed through some of the fights. My biggest gripe was just the characters being boring though.

I'm watching Uchuu Patrol Luluco.

They're on a planet called KLK-X and it's bodaciously just a giant ball of the effect they used for the living threads in Kill La Kill.

Well done, Trigger.

Yea and then they ruined the fight by having Trunks beat whatshisface with a sword made from the power of the what, like 30 people left alive?

I don't really follow DBS though, I've only been reading the summaries and watching the more important episodes.

I hope they're making that a thing from now on.

Part 5 has parts cut out. Part 6 starts getting unnoticably faster at first and then more and more. Part 7... uhh, have multiple ones play at the same time slightly delayed?

I've been watching part 4 with a friend, and when BITES ZA DUSTO went off during the OP,I bodaciously shouted "Oh shit" without meaning to. Pretty sure it annoyed my friend, but holy hell it caught me off guard.

Really excited for the next episode.

Been getting heavily into Gundam recently. I've watched all of the new Origin movies they've released so far, I've been reading the manga re-telling of the original series, and I've been catching up on Iron-Blooded Orphans. I'd watch the original Gundam anime, but the hardcover manga volumes are of really good quality. I know I'm late to the party, but Universal Century Gundam is shaping up to be one of my favorite pieces of media.

I love IBO for the way that its setting feels more "lived-in" and many of its Mobile Suits are these bulky things. As well, even the Gundams in IBO use these huge melee and ballistic weapons, since beam weaponry is a banned/forgotten technology. Seeing the Mobile Suits and Gundams swing around huge maces, broadswords and axes and slinging hot lead at each-other in this well-worn future is fantastic.

Jojo is so good. Out of all the anime I've ever watched, there have only been 2 good enough to make me read the manga; Jojo, and Berserk. It is a curse though because I spend an awful amount of time trying to get my friends to watch it.

So I've been watching or re-watching grim, psychological type anime for a few weeks like Black Lagoon and Ergo Proxy and started looking around for shows that are just brutal and depressing. A series called Now and Then, Here and There came up as a strong suggestion for something you can only watch once because it's unrelentingly dark. It's short and I finished it quickly. The ending completely ruins the rest of the series for me. This show appears as a typical "lost in a fantasy realm" scenario at the beginning, but begins to take cues from the child army situations going on in parts of the world and shows every terrible facet of those situations in detail. However, it takes a hard left at the end and offers up some weird almost-pop flyin' ending? Sure, a lot of people are dead, but the protagonist whose blind optimism has never once helped himself or anyone is still as hopeful and pop flyin' as when we started. The show had a chance to buck every applicable trope and shoot for true tragedy at one point in particular but instead offers a bland march to a finale that offers no closure and no catharsis. It's just over.
