Trying to get through The Mayor of Casterbridge for the second time. Still want to figure out what it was about it that rubbed me the wrong way. I like Henchard's character a lot, but everything seems a bit... I don't know, soap opera.

All of the books I'm currently reading are unfinished so far but I've been actively reading Sherlock Holmes whenever I can. I love mystery and crime stories (My years of constantly watching Law and Order and other cop shows can attest to this).

I first read one of his stories "The Speckled Band" in English years ago and I loved it. I'm currently at the 4th case in the book, The Boscombe Valley Mystery. One of my favorite parts of each cases is when Holmes explains the steps he took to figuring out the crime. From what I gather from Holmes so far is he's definitely infinitely interesting in how he just does things. He can be particularly apathetic to other people for the sake of detached and objective reasoning. But when he's got a case that rustles his jimmies, he turns into such an enthusiastic character. It seems to be one of the few things that can bring out some form of emotion from him. He probably wouldn't be so enthusiastic though if Watson wasn't there.

Watson is very easy to relate to being so normal compared to Sherlock. He is his own character though, not just a insert for us readers to vicariously live through. They have a great relationship and I'm enjoying every minute of reading this book.

Bought The Nine Lives of Chloe King.

Oh man, I hope I know what I've gotten myself into.

I've got to read Macbeth sometime this summer. My Theater teacher emailed me and he wants me to condense it into something that can be performed by amateurs with little to no props in 30 minutes or less.

The challenge is accepted.

I just finished The Art of Racing In the Rain. It was hard not to tear up at the end. I loved how the author chose to write from the family dog's point of view. It really helped to fit in how the book analyzed the evils of the human mind and how we work. Quite a tragic story, but it's resolved wonderfully at the end.

When we read Macbeth in high school, I turned it into a comedy. And I got all the best parts. We changed every day, so at different points in the play, I was different voices. First, I was the third weird sister. My friend was the first, and he read it in a high-pitched "witch-y" voice. Second was a female, she read it the same. I decided to use my normal sultry baritone voice, and I got all of the laughs. When it came time for the final duel, my best friend and I were Macbeth and Macduff, respectively. We used yardsticks as swords and recited the "I am your father" dialogue from The Empire Strikes Back.

Oh, my mom read that. She said it was good.
Edit: referring to the Art of Racing in the Rain or whatever

Asking here because it seems the most fitting.

Someone has any keypoints to copying the written style of The Catcher in the Rye?

I'm sad you didn't use the Spaceballs dialogue for the duel.

We were going to do The Princess Bride, from when Inigo and Wesley are dueling, but we were sure that no one else would get the reference.

I know its considered by many to be the pinnacle of English writing and that it has influenced many a great play or other literary work
but Hamlet can go suck a dick

Well it's stream of consciousness, so just write anything that pops into your(or the character's) head.

I ordered a LotR/The Hobbit box set.
Lets give this another try.

I got 1/4 of the way through Return of the King, and I loved the books, but I had to stop because school got in the way and I couldn't pick it back up.
