You'd be surprised how easy it would be to make him look young again.

In The Five Doctors they cast another actor as First because of William's death, age difference won't be difficult at all

Though watching the Time War, starting with 8, and the climax being the regeneration into Nine, and his "winning" of the war would be amazing.

Moffat would find a way to fuck it up somehow.

Sadly, I agree with [CN]. Though, with any luck, they'll have more writers on hand for an episode this special and they'll be able to call out some of Moffat's nonsense?

I think no matter who was in charge we'd be disappointed.

Yeah, I remember Donna's send off being kind of cheesy with her Doctor Donna powers that would kill her and having to have her memories erased.

I think that send-offs for companions in general are hard to handle.

I don't think I've ever been disappointed with any companion sendoffs, not even this one. I'm just disappointed with the episode itself.

Donna's sendoff actually made me feel the most compassion. Not just because she's the best companion, but because unlike the others, she's still right there. Perfectly accessible, yet never being able to be spoken to.
Rose is locked in another dimension. Horribly tragic, but it at least offers closure to both of them.
Martha left of her own free will, nothing tragic at all.
Amy & Rory are trapped, much like Rose, though just in time and not space.
Donna, on the other hand, has to have everyone lie to her daily, lest she die. She's going around her daily business, and the Doctor could visit her whenever he wanted. Except he can't because she would have her head explode.

That was excellent, but I can see why it was left out. It fits as an ending, but the bit they also used is an ending. I'm not sure how to explain it, but you remember of Lord of the Rings had like 5 ending scenes? The switch was kind of jarring, because you were ready to go after one. It would've been like that on a smaller scale. Also, Rory apparently doesn't count as a companion, he's like, a companion' companion. Amy is the only one they care about, so she gets the closure scene.

But dang it, Mr. Williams deserves that scene!

Rory is better than Amy, in my opinion.
