I mean, a science fiction story in the wild west would be a bit out of place, no?

Ayn Rand doesn't just create a fictional world though. See, most authors? They make a fictional world that has some basis in reality. Gravity pulls things down, the Earth revolves around the sun, and grass is green. If these things DON'T apply, there are reasons as to why, which if the writer is good actually work and make the world more believable. In the end, however, everything works the way it logically should even if you change that logic.

Ayn Rand doesn't do that. His books say "this is how things work, not just in my book, but in real life" which is not the best thing to do. In fact it's possibly the worst.

Been reading The Last Wish which is the first collection of Witcher short stories. Really digging it.

It's also the first book I've read in English and I've had to use a dictionary more often than I originally anticipated. I thought I was good at fantasy and medieval terminology.

When I try to read Ayn Rand, I always see Andrew Ryan, no matter what.

That's crazy. Who in their right mind would make such a connection?

Finally John Dies at the End came. A week after the other one.
Now I'm trying to decide if I should keep reading Book full of Spiders or read John first because it came first. But then again at the beginning of Spiders he says that it's encouraged to read Spiders first if you haven't read the other one yet. Hmmm.

In a moment I will be reading 1984 for the first time. Should I be excited?

Reminds me of the deliciously ironic situation where Amazon pulled 1984, Animal Farm and some other ebooks from the Kindle store as well as from people's devices because the "publisher" lacked the rights to sell them.

I thought Orwell's books were in public domain by now, but not until 2044 (in the U.S.).
