Well actually she's just fine and will be starring in a Comic. Apparently she's lending a hand in the search for Zuko's mom.

Thats another thing I should have mentioned when this argument started.

I just remembered another thing about Season one of LoK that was utterly horrible: Meelo.

Two grown adults thought that a fart bending child who rustled in fountains was a good decision for a comic relief character when their previous series had comic relief characters like Toph and Sokka who were interesting with their personalities and backstory.

I can't blame them for trying something new. We haven't had a toddler character in the last series, and let's face it there isn't much more to a toddler's character than gags like that.

I do really hope we get some more insight into Tenzin's family soon, especially since the baby was born.

Really I just like Tenzin's character, a lot. Why are all the best characters in Korra the adults? Lin Bei Fong, Tenzin, Tarrlok... not to mention the flashbacks to the characters from the first series now that they've grown up.

Well I can blame them for going several levels down the scale of comedy when they've proven that they can do a lot better than toilet humor. Sure there was some in AtLA, but from what I can recall it was never in the middle of a bloody fight scene.

Meelo is based off of Eastern ideals about young boys and the innocence of children.

If they really wanted to get technical and "authentic", I'm sure they could have had Meelo nude in a few scenes with no one generally freaking out except outsiders. Though, I'm sure standards and practices and Nick would definitely have plenty to say about that ever happening.

Meelo was there to be the innocent carefree kid that, even though he's a weird little kid and very immature in a naive sort of way, he's still more in touch with his Airbending than Korra was.

And I still find it odd that Tenzin is so... reserved despite being an Airbender. Sure, we saw stick in the mud Airbenders before, but at least they seemed... flexible. Tenzin's starting to come out a bit looser, but I still see him as having a very rigid inner personality too.

Did they actually say that?

And even if that is true, Meelo's fartbending and comic relief feel like they come from some manner of cheesy PG family movie than any Eastern ideals of youth that I've ever heard of.

Series like Crayon Shin-Chan cover and lampshade some of the "innocence of boys" thing in eastern culture (the humor of the series stems from the fact that the main character is in a bit of a grey area (at right about the age where certain things like nudity should be downplayed), so his actions are unnerving to people, but they can't quite say it's indecent because of how the culture is). Females are treated similarly (though much more shamed for any form of public nudity) until they get to the age of 8-10, when they're treated more like young ladies. This cultural thing is often why it's not weird in anime for friends/siblings (even with an age gap)/a parent and a child to share nude baths together, even though in the US and many parts of Europe, such a thing would be seen as indecent. It's also why a lot of shows set up the "childhood best friend" girl as having drifted apart from being like a sister to a character to more like an acquaintance. They're no longer allowed, culturally, to act like they used to.

So last month I finally watched all of Avatar. (yes, Korra too)
I am now bored and want a second season of Korra this instant. (AND WHAT HAPPENED TO ZUKO'S MOM?!)

I think the search for Ursa is being done in comic format?

I heard he was based of one of their coworker's kids, lumpy head and all.

I do want to see more Old-Katara. Especially if she's conflicted on how she feels about Korra, seeing as Korra is also technically Aang.

I wanna see her doing some water bending, ideally fighting the evil spirits or what have you. But I think that's more because I loved her in ATLA.

I felt some of this too when the first episode ran. I kinda wanted to see a bit more beef from it, but I felt like they covered her well. Despite technically being her dead husband, Korra is her own person, and Katara had to let her go do what she felt was right, just as Gran-gran did the same for Katara. I liked how both series started the same in that respect.
