The point would just be that Sombra represents depression in the way that the crystal boners act depressed because of his rule and him hiding away the Crystal Heart.

For the parents that watch the show with their children? And while a lot of kids can't understand depression, they can understand sadness, like "We're sad because King Sombre/Sombra was a big meanie and stole our Crystal Heart". The little kids who watch the show most likely understood that Discord was a monster that was all about craziness and lack of harmony; Why couldn't they understand that since Sombra was making people sad, he could be a monster that is made of sadness?

Didn't the Crystal boners and Cadence have to use love and...light or something like that to keep Sombre away and then ultimately defeat him? With that in mind, it's not too hard to view it as a kiddy-friendly version of depression, complete with a way of confronting it. 'If you get sad, kids, just turn to your friends and loved ones and together you can stop being sad!'

I know it's not a fool-proof way of dealing with depression, which is a really problematic thing that shouldn't be dealt with lightly, but for children, I think it's alright.

I think I just want to watch the show and not find hidden meaning in it, but also not have people insinuating what an awful horrible creepy heretic I am because I get associated with the actually awful horrible creepy heretics.

But the meanings aren't hidden; it's a kids' show where a pony makes friends and learns lessons about friendship, and those lessons are clearly explained at the end of the episode. Kids can also recognize patterns, too: At the beginning of each season, a villain representing something causes bad stuff to happen to the world, and the power of working together with friends can stop it. So there was a pony who had blatant moon/night motifs that wanted to make night last forever, and there was a monster that was made up of a bunch of different parts of animals that wanted to make the world crazy and illogical.

With all of that, I'm quite sure that children can understand that the evil pony this time around represents sadness with his fog/dark clouds/storms motif (which are often used in western culture to depict gloom/sadness) and that all of the boners he ruled over were sad.

There will be weird people in any fandom. One odd person in a crowd of people doesn't make everyone in there vicinity a complete creep.

And constantly drawing attention to them isn't helping anybody.

But enough about that, let's get back to talking about the show. What were your favorite parts of the premiere? I liked Pinkie Pie's spy bit a lot. I also liked that when Applejack was keeping boners away from the Crystal Heart, she never actually lied and only distracted the other characters by showing them/telling them about something else at the fair, keeping in line with her honesty.

Favorite parts:
-Fluttershy suit
-Strike that, everything Pinkie Pie in that episode
-The whole Crystal Fair was pretty great
-Sombra's castle/traps
-I didn't see that moral about self sacrifice coming
-That reprise. Wow. I don't know why, but I found it really emotional.

Parts they could have done better:
-I feel like Fluttershy wasn't featured as much as the others She's my favorite, OK? Shut up
-Sombra should have been featured more, instead of just HEY LOOK THE BAD GUY
-Those crystal outfits would have been pretty neat to see if I could have actually seen them through all the shiny and the minimal time given to see them

I agree, Sombra should've gotten more time on screen, but what do you mean by the crystal outfits? The actual crystal boners and the main cast being all crystal-y? Because if so, yeah, it would've been cool to see what they looked like for a little longer.

Yeah, that's what I meant, the main cast being crystally. I even paused and couldn't see it because of how bright they were. But I guess we got a preview of Rarity's earlier though?

I get the feeling like the season finale will involve that book that Luna had at the end.

I had a good laugh at the crackpot/intentionally stupid theories on 4chan about the book being The Enchiridion and how Finn and Jake would have to traverse Equestria in one episode.
