To be fair, from what I've learned about the manga industry, almost nobody even knows if their manga will go past thirty chapters if even that. Stands to reason they can't plot that far ahead if they don't know whether the manga will continue to exist in the next few months.

The only ones who can are the big names, whose manga is pretty much firmly entrenched like One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, etc. Though popular is not always synonymous with quality, so it can still be a hack-job twist.

There's also the whole "being talentless" thing, though I dunno if that applies to Blue Exorcist's guy

The character in question has been remarkably lackluster and lazy compared to the others and seems to have sword skills that he's never used.

This was his first solo fight and it was great, but since there's only 40 pages a month, there's only so much to be said.

The mangaka is pretty good about not doing stupid stuff and making twists feel legitimate, it's just frustrating that this chapter was a twist pileup out of nowhere and it might be awhile until we get satisfactory answers.

I've been reading Kekkaishi, and it's pretty good. I'm on volume 16 right now and I'm glad that everything has maintained focus on the two main characters and their family and their interactions with various friends and foes. I guess it helps that they're not traveling around the world on a big dumb quest; they're supposed to defend a single area of immense power, which just so happens to be where they go to school.

Over the past week or so, I've been watching Turn-A Gundam. Now that I've finished it, I have to say its easily my favorite Gundam series and honestly just a great anime in general. It takes a much slower approach to the storytelling, putting more of an emphasis on setting and character development than action and mech fights, which are quite scarce in the first half of the series. This is mostly the result of the setting, which instead of being advanced space technology all over the place, takes place in the far future after Earth has pretty much been fucked back to the stone age, but then slowly over thousands of years worked its way back to an industrial like age. As such, the first battle in the series has the still fairly advanced Moonrace descending to Earth with their mechs, only to be met with resistance by the local militia flying around in god daisies biplanes. Plus it has an interesting cast of characters and an amazing OST that ranks among the best I've heard. I would recommend this series to anyone, even those who aren't fans of mech.

Also, Harry Ord is a god among men and is the best "Char character" since Char, maybe even better than Char himself.

Also also, Laura is the best female Gundam pilot. Get wrecked, Kamille.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS. All of this. Plus you forgot to mention that the animation quality is lovely, possibly the best of all the traditionally animated Gundam series. Personally, I one of the biggest reasons I love it is because of the well-written and prominent female characters, which are such a freakin' rarity in mecha.

And even though it's a great series for anyone to watch, you'll get more enjoyment out of it if you've seen some other gundam series before, especially all of the series that were made before it. Firstly because it's littered with well done references to those series, and secondly because it's so refreshingly different from your typical Gundam.

Finally, Harry isn't really as much of A CHAR than he is A QUATTRO. He's got sunglasses instead of a mask, a golden mobile suit, he works with the protagonist and co. and mentors sometimes, and he doesn't have any hidden agendas.

Viz released a bonus issue of Weekly Shonen Jump while Japan is having a huge festival. It has a full-color gallery of all the volume covers as well as a color gallery of some of the chapter intro splash pages. The most interesting thing though was that it had the pilot chapter of Naruto. The differences between the pilot and the final product are:
-Naruto isn't a ninja, he's an actual nine-tailed fox. He has a heightened sense of smell because of this and whenever he transforms into something that isn't his human form you see in the final series, he has a fox tail.
-He lives in a yokai village in the mountains. He's tasked with going to the city to make human friends. This version takes place on regular Earth, as a character mentions his favorite food is French.
-There is more modern technology in the cities, like cars and guns. Naruto has a mo-ped-looking bike he rides around.

I wonder what the manga would have been like if Kishimoto kept this as the premise? Would it have caught on as well as the version we have right now or would something else take it's place as part of the Big Three? Or would we just have the Big Two of One Piece and Bleach?

Oh man you have no idea how confused I was to see Tomino women not acting like complete idiots or being killed left and right. Hell, even when Sochie is on her whole revenge and racism shtick she was still a very believable character who had every reason to hate the Moonrace. Still glad she got over it though since it made her kind of a bitch.

I've wanted to watch Turn A for a while now, but I always see people saying this so I held off on it until I had watched a few more series (only lacking Victory and X at this point, not sure which I'll watch next), but I find it more similar to the non-UC stuff in the sense that you can just pick it up and watch it without having to, say, watch 0079 and Zeta to understand what the hell is happening in CCA. I mean, the references are definitely there and are nice to see, but ultimately they don't really effect the overall plot. Though maybe it did add some more emotion for me during some scenes, like when they're viewing the recordings from the Dark History and it's just footage copy/pasted from older shows. I still think a basic understanding of Gundam as a whole is advisable if one doesn't intend to sit and watch 5-6 series first.

Yeah, you're right. I meant more he's the masked man of the series, seeing as how a lot of Gundam's have them and I can only assume its due to Char being so popular and Tomino/Sunrise/whoever wanting to duplicate that. I always thought Quattro was better than Char anyway so that's probably another reason why Harry is so great.

After 90 chapters, the protagonist of my favorite harem manga, Minamoto-kun Monogatari, is finally losing his virginity! This sure has been a long time coming, and- wait, Minamoto you need to slow down a bit, there. You're going too fast. At this rate, you'll be losing it too quickly! Agh, damnit Minamoto. You had it all and you blew it!
