That seems to be an exception to the general rule.

Nah it's just an example I thought would be recognisable

shonen is a demographic baka, it doesn't describe the material

Shonen: Villain shows up-> Is more powerful than hero-> Hero trains-> Defeats villain-> Villain shows up-> Repeat until enough cheddar is made.

This would've been a good warning a while ago. Still, not horribly confused. Ill just change the file names for future use.

Are there any more of these I need to look out for when going out of UC? Because I'm getting to those next.

Besides the 1st episode of ZZ being a Zeta recap, Victory is the only case of that. Have fun with your horribly effective child soldier.

The pace has gone back to "Not very good" in the Hunter x Hunter anime, but that was to be expected since that part also had a weird pace in the manga (still less annoying because of the format).

Dang, wish I'd known that. Kinda wanna go back and rewatch them in the right order.

7 Episodes in and I still have no idea what to think about Valvrave.

Except that the 1/144 VALVRAVE III is going to be mine at the earliest possible opportunity.

Watched the first two episodes of Attack on Titan and I gotta say I'm enjoying it so far. The concept is pretty gruesome.

Hey, guys. Been looking for a good anime to watch but everything I find seems to be kinda...lackluster. A lot of the really good animes are really fixated on one specific thing, like action (Fairy Tale), Romance (+Rosario), Comedy (Nichijou) or they try to make death the important factor, as if that's supposed to glue you to the show (Sword Art Online). I'm trying to find something that capitalizes on a little bit of everything, without it becoming too...cheesy. Like Death Note cheesy. It tried to be really dramatic but once the mystery of the show was gone, it became more like watching a game of animated chess. Everything felt so ruthless and cold and it was hard to enjoy any characters. Elven Lied was good for a while until, once again, the Death card got overused and you just expected everyone to die.

Fullmetal was good, had a nice balance of everything (lacking in the romance department, but beggars can't be choosers). I'm keeping up with Naruto Shippuden (although the whole "Fighting your ghosts from the past as zombies" shindig is starting to get really old) and that's not bad. The only series I've been completely, 100%, satisfied with was Code Geass. I was hoping Fairy Tale and Sword Art would fall under the same category, but they don't even come close. Everything felt like....a tool. People, locations, empires, even the giant robot Gundam suits. In Gundam, everything revolves around the machines, and the people are secondary. But in Geass, the machines lose more often to excellent planning and shrewd intellect than to a better pilot. They feel more disposable, and the series uses them as a plot device and not the plot itself. Code Geass kept you on your toes until the last few episodes, where everything else I have found have fallen into a sort of rut that makes them uninteresting after the first 10 episodes (look up Tower of Druaga, perfect example of a good show wasted). Could really use any suggestions, I will probably watch anything you guys post.

I will say that I REALLY like Nichijou, but I'd also like a serious anime to dive into.

TL;DR: Looking for an anime similar to Code Geass (not in the Gundam aspect, more in the thriller/badassery aspect).

Funny thing is, Gundam's whole shtick is that people are at the crux of everything as opposed to the robutts.
Anywhoozle, take your pick.

00 has a politically driven plot and super neat mechs
Unicorn is just great, overall.
War in the Pocket focuses almost entirely on the characters and their interactions. Still has one of the best fights in the entire lexicon of gundam.
Zeta, again, is just straight up good.

gimme a sec, i'll find one of those recommended lists from /m/

The Future Diary has a lot of schemery, action, and romance.

The Future Diary fell along the same lines as Elven Lied and Death Note to me. I don't like the idea of overusing Death as a piece of the main plot. It should be something that happens, sure, but it shouldn't be THE thing that happens. It was alright, but it goes under that genre of "Death is a big deal" animes, which are fine until death stops being a big deal. What I did like about FD was the weird romance/time warp stuff at the end that made you stop and think. I really like that kind of stuff, and too many animes don't give their audience enough of it. On the other end of the spectrum, you have animes that dive too far into it, often becoming too boring or too abstract to keep up with it.

Code Geass had a little bit of romance, a little bit of politics, a little bit of magic, but not enough to be distracting or overdone. "Less is more", kinda thing. It keeps you from overindulged with any one piece of it, and that's how it should be. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all of the titles I've mentioned, but I've only ever fallen in love with a very select few. And most of these titles are supposed to be some of the best, which is really quite disappointing.
