Book 1 was perfect, except for how rushed it was towards the end due to there being two seasons instead of one big one.

So the first season of Korra is now on German tv.
Let‛s see how the voice acting is.

I wouldn't say it was perfect, there was a lot to not like about it, and much that could be improved on. But it was a solid entry into what will hopefully become an amazing series. Much like in The Last Airbender, Book 1 wasn't all that superb.

The reason why Last air bender's first season might not be that great was because it was a almost episodic as they got into the story slowly. But it ended on a strong note. Characters grew a lot, they closed some plot threads but left plenty to continue to more seasons.
While Aang's distant goal was to defeat the Fire nation, the first thing he had to do was master water bending.

The problem with Korra was that airbending suddenly came to her, which she fire bended more than air bended and then defeated the bad guy and became the avatar within like one or two episodes.

Rushed.

Not knowing if they'd get a second season isn't an excuse. Plenty of good shows get cancelled before they finish revealing everything and just have to hope that the plot threads left open are enough to entice the studio to give them a second season. If not then they made the season they had as well as they could have.

Korra had a good few opening episodes. But I'm pretty unimpressed with the rest.

Actually, while Korra can airbend now, that just means it's no longer blocked off in her. She still has to learn technique, how to control it, minute detail, things like that.

If you notice, when she gets it, she does not use it like airbending. She uses it like firebending, in a much more aggressive and forward manner, which is the opposite of what it's meant for.

Yeh, that's what I said.
Instead of actually learning air bending, she defeats the bogey man by fire bending air.

It's like she got handed the game ender with out really having to work at it. That's not a satisfying way to end things.

I agree. In my opinion, they could have spent less time on the tournament and romance to add more actual avatar stuff. Also in my opinion, it felt like a lot of the romance in Korra was pandering. I understand that the characters are young adults, but still.

She suffered quite a bit to get airbending. Being bloodbent is painful as hell from the look of it. She also practiced endlessly, even gave up on it briefly. The Bending Matches were part of the practice. Learning to move like an Airbender. Fighting Amon was Avatar stuff. That's what they needed the Avatar for.

Another thing that I noticed is that all of the members of the council are representatives from the four nations. Why didn't they ever think about getting somebody who's lived in Republic City all their life and put them on the council? Then maybe Amon and all the Equalist stuff could have been prevented in the first place with a person who has hands-on experience with Republic City sitting at the council table? Maybe they'll do it since Tarrlok is fish food now.

That's a good point. Giving the Water Tribe two representatives is kind of weird as well. The Earth Kingdom is larger with at least two kings. What about the Boggy Swamp? If the Air Nomads were still around would they get four reps? In all fairness, this is a fair approximation of how disorganized politics can get.

The stuff she suffered was unrelated to air bending though. She didn't reach genuine spiritual enlightenment. She just got her angst on. Even Zuko had to find enlightenment to get his fire bending back to par.

This is also true for reaching the avatar state.

We only have one episode where she is actively doing air bender training. That episode was equally about disobeying Tenzin and learning to compete in pro-bending. While now and then we see her training with the kids, we don't get to see her make much more of an effort to learn air bending or get it touch with her spiritual side until very late in the plot.

Further more the footwork she learns is never used again. If anything they could have made more of a point to tie the pro bending with her air bending and have Tenzin and the kids be sort of part time coaches to the fire ferrets. So all three of them learn air bending forms and it validates that episode by reinforcing her ability to learn under pressure.

Technically, Tenzin would be that person, since Air Bender Island is in Republic City, and he doesn't really seem to be "from" one of the 4 Airbending Temples, which may or may not still be defunct as places to live.

Also, the Earth Kingdom, while having Kings of smaller places (like Bumi being the King of Omashu) has one unified leader in the Earth King. The Water Tribes are basically 2 nations with their own traditions and governments. So it kinda makes sense that they have two representatives.

Yeah, but Tenzin's most likely lived a monk lifestyle (i.e. staying on Air Temple Island for most of the time unless he's called to Council) and hasn't experienced all that Republic City has to offer. Someone who has actually lived in the city would be a much better candidate for its own representative.
