whenever i just typed out the word "blue" it wouldn't work for some reason so i had to go hunt down the hex code for it. blue is, annoyingly, the only common hex code i don't have memorized :|

i haven't started reading it but i've flipped through and wow this is so bizzarely laid out i love it. the pages with just like one or two words on them strike me as some of the most powerful in the book - really driving the emotion of the scene. i've only ever seen this kind of layout in poems and i love that a proper book of prose used it to drive a point. yes good.

but yeah every mention of the word house in the book is in blue (at least in the full colour version which is what you should be reading.) there is more than likely a good reason.

I own the full color edition but the two-color version isn't bad

House and minotaur are in blue and red respectively still, but there's like one line that's purple in the full color that isn't in the two color

and then I think the little boxes that go on for a section are just black instead of bluish purple

0000ff is surprising.

I THINK I UNDERSTAND!

Red Yellow Blue
0123456789abcdef, right?
2 for each color

ff=255 00=0 oh man!

ff0000=red
00ff00=yellow
0000ff=blue!

Woah I didn't expect to learn any of this but reasoning happened.

I am 100 percent not sarcastic just genuinely excited.

There is a font colour selection panel on the right.

I've gotten back into reading The Science of Discworld 3. These are so much fun to read because you get to learn at the same time.

Last week I met a guy who turned out to be a writer and I read his first thing, Destination Saigon and it is PRETTY GOOD, FAGGOTS.

It's sort of a travel diary about him dicking around in Vietnam, getting drunk with farmers, hanging out with monks and doing cool things. Definitely light reading, but with an easy going casual voice; and the subject matter quite interesting. Not the sort of spine I'd have picked up myself in a shop, it's a really solid read. It has a lot of great anecdotes about monks which are always great, and a memorable passage about taxi drivers cupping his balls.

SHOULD PICK IT UP YO

Finished Reaper Man.

It was...meh. Solid writing but the voice was a tad too flippant. I like airy and loose, I mean that's how I write, but this frequently felt as though the writer had forgotten there was something critical happening while he went off on a tangent. The story wasn't much to write home about, what with things going back to status quo at the end and a lot of random shit occurring that tried to be funny but just wasn't, like the mall scene.

There were some highlights though. I liked the seer who answered questions before they were asked.
