Sounds like he's been waiting for an excuse to both go to war and/or piss on the mages for a while. Luckily this isn't happening in Skyrim, otherwise there'd be fireballs going everywhere.

Oh good, I was hoping this wasn't going to turn out to be one of those things where one evil mage does some misc evil thing, and the next thing we know ALL of the warriors are killing ALL of the mages even the younglings. It'd be like the Americans vs the Japanese during WWII all over again.
