I stopped following Bleach around the point where Aizen's betrayal became obvious.
Does Zangetsu's embodied 'old geezer' form make any further reappearances after that - I always liked seeing Ichigo stand off against/learn from 'old geezer' Zangetsu.
He comes back to mediate the fight between Hollow Ichigo and Ichigo, and it's made apparent that him and Hollow Ichigo are likely two halves of the same person (though, really, they're all a part of Ichigo, so duh). He then appears as a younger version of himself when Ichigo visits him in Bankai mode. They fight, because Ichigo needs to get the secret of the Final Getsuga out of Zangetsu, and Zangetsu refuses. At the end though, Ichigo let's Zangetsu run him through with the sword, and Zangetsu says that he did the one thing that would convince him to tell Ichigo the secret. He didn't want to tell Ichigo, because the Final Getsuga would stip Ichigo of his spiritual powers, and it would hurt Ichigo, who is the person Zangetsu wants to protect. His words also take on a double meaning, because he knows how much Ichigo prides himself on his power to protect people, and during the Fullbringer Arc, Ichigo has to deal with being the one without powers. the one who can't protect what he wants. It's quite possible that at that time, Zangetsu felt the rain in Ichigo's soul, the thing he hates most. But since then, we haven't seen him since, and considering that
Zangetsu is currently destroyed, though can be fixed if the person who destroyed it decides to, we're not sure where that puts him.
