ok rururoni kenshyn time
"rururoni kenshyn episode 1"
thanks wikipedia
Rurouni Kenshin is a story set in the fictional land of "Japan" from hit video game Sid Meier's Civilization III
It follows the tittyular character Kenshin, a samurai (Samurai are like western knights but inferior) as he slices and dices his way through medieval Japan, taking no prisoners and-
what do you mean he doesn't kill anyone
that's gay
So the story begins with some slut telling us that 140 years ago there was this really cool guy that killed a load of people in a super cool war, but then he disappeared mysteriously so not to tarnish his bad booty image
then out of nowhere the narrative just skips forward to modern medieval japan (How do you even follow this narrative it's all over the place) and we find the mysterious cool guy walking down some street, where he is a assaulted by a chick with a wooden stick
the chick accuses him of being the cool guy, but he's all naw look how fucking lame I am, my sword isn't even sharp on the right side. He pulls some goofy 90s faces and she buys it and walks away. (LITTLE DOES SHE KNOW, HE REALLY IS BUFFY THE MAN SLAYER)
later we join the chick as she tries to stop the fat guy from Jackie Chan Adventures from killing some dudes, in a shocking turn of events her wooden stick is no match for his actual sword and it's up to Samurai Champloo to save her
fatso runs away claiming to be the guy Kenshin actually is and tells everyone that he uses the lightsaber style that the girl's family teaches in their dojo (I don't know why this is a big deal since I never touched the fighting style button in KotOR 2 and I did fine)
Now I don't want to spoil the plot, so I'll end the summery here, but let's just say that it turns out the fat guy was a disgruntled student of the dojo and wanted to ruin it's name by killing people with it's non-lethal style and then Kenshin breaks his fingers so he can never use a sword again.
I'll let you find out the rest for yourselves.
Now the release I downloaded had dual audio but no subtitles for some reason, so I only watched the dub. It sounds as awkward as you expect a 90s/early 00 dub to sound. The lines are all a little rushed and the delivery is flatter than le Great Handsome Oppressor in a corset.
Animation was swell throughout, though actually lacking in the most action packed scene of the episode. Maybe if they would have allocated their time better and spent more of it drawing Kenshin slicing people rather than wood chips flying through the air. But for real is goes from pretty expressive animation (The main heroine Kaoru especially) to panning shots of him making slicing actions.
It's also filled with goofy 90s comedy goofiness which is my bane, I'm so glad sweatdrops are pretty much dead these days.

I'd better actually get in gear before the new season ends hahhahaha..... ... . .... .. ..-. ..- -.-. -.- -.-- --- ..-
In this post I'm going to write about the show that I would consider to be my favorite out of all that I have watched, it's probably not the best in any aspect but it's the one that appeals to me the most.
I'm gonna do this because if you claim that something is your favorite and you can't even write two sides of A4 explaining why then you are a blowhard faggot
So here we go
Sora no Woto
"Sound of the Sky"
"Call of Duty Moedern Warfare"
Sora no Woto is the story of Private Kanata Sorami, a young and naive/clinically retarded girl who joins the army because she would get to learn to play the trumpet if she became a bugler.
Stationed in the quiet fictional town of Seize most of the episodes revolve around her new life and those of the other members of the 1121st Platoon as they go about their business being stationed in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. I remember somebody in the military commenting once that it was the most accurate representation of day to day army life he had ever seen in an anime.
Now this fictional town Seize is situated in the fictional Country of Helvetia, that's right sweden isn't real. If you're keen of eye you might notice that shit in SnW is pretty WW2 era looking, if you are keen of mind you might notice that the vehicles and weapons are all based on real WW2 things, I didn't but some people did and they probably got a kick out of it. Here comes the big twist though, this isn't WW2, this is the future.
It's one of those wacky "Post Apocalypse" settings that you've heard tales of. I don't want to say too much about it and also there isn't much to say about it. Hints are dropped and questions are raised without answers, the details of the setting are left ambiguous and mysterious, because it's cool and interesting that way and because the real focus is on the people living in a dying world and how then handle it. Think about the premise even; "15 year old girl joins the army to learn the trumpet." at first it might seem "lol japan xD" but on second thought this is a world where they are willing to recruit children to the army because there is no one else.
Now arguably Kanata is the weakest character, however also arguably it serves a purpose regarding the shows themes. Kanata is a cheerful airhead surrounded by people with severe emotional problems. She serves as something clean and innocent to expose to the effects of war and juxtapose them. The effects of war being most of the themes I mentioned, loss, trauma and guilt are all explored in different ways. Also politics cus politics is da best
I won't go into the other characters because to be honest it's not quite the shows strongpoint since you can kind of place them as common archetypes, though there is more too them I'd probably end up spoiling something if I were to try elaborate.
Oh wait I'll talk about Tank-kun
Tank-kun (Or rather Takemikazuchi (Son of the God of Fire)) is a Vector-Type Zero Autonomous class spider leg walking super tank relic from the past. It's in disrepair for most of the show. I will never own a model of it and it kills me.
Now it is time to talk of ~Atmosphere~
Atmosphere here is very good. If someone said to me "Do you like the atmosphere" I would say "Yes." with an audible sense of satisfaction.
There's really a sense of life to the setting, it has history and a culture and there's little economic details that again show you what a state the world is in. Seize is actually based on a real town in Spain called Cuenca, it pretty breathtaking, the kind if place you'd go as a tourist even if there wasn't a chinese cartoon based on it. (The local news show actually had a bit on SnW because they were so proud) One guy that liked the show actually went to it and put the pictures on a blog: http://reliqueabandonee.blogspot.co.uk/
Music is another big part of the atmosphere. Simply put the soundtrack is fantastic, one of the few that I actually listen to on a regular basis. The composer should get like 20 medals.
Here's a sample of the soundtrack. The title means "Servant of Fire", but you already knew that, didn't you le Great Handsome Oppressor. I'm on to you.
Music is also a big part of the.................................... show
Well not that big considering, it's more just central to Kanata's character and some shit about how it connects people or whatever. Amazing Grace is played a lot throughout. If you have lived long enough to gain sentience you might know that Amazing Grace is one of the most recognizable songs on earth and is important to about 20000 different cultures.
Visuals ain't really anything special. While the backgrounds are quite excellent and there is some scenery porn, it suffers from A-1's sameface style that they have adopted in recent years so it falls ill to claims such as "It looks like K-On" and "It's K-On with guns". A-1 didn't even animate K-On y'all niggas is dumb.
What hurts more about the A-1 designs is that the original designs were done by Mel Kishida. Mel Kishida draws some daisies pretty pictures so it's a shame that they didn't even try to adapt his style. For an example of a show with designs by Mel with a studio that tried look at Hanasaku Iroha, shits all fucking beautiful.
Also in Mel's original design Kanata has blue eyes but in the show they are brown, I guess they wanted her to look more plain.
Mel's art.
So that's all I can be bothered to write since it's getting late. As proof of how late it is I just tried to type that "write" there as "right".
Sora no Woto is a show with a lot of effort put into it, I actually own the LE DVD box (swag) that has an artbook with comments from the director and writer. They really put a lot into trying to make it something special. It was also part of some bullshit called "Anime no Chikara" (The power of anime) where they made three original shows trying to breath some life into the medium or something. While it was a nice idea and there really aren't enough original shows it was kind of shitty and SnW is the only one worth mentioning. Occult Academy was supposed to be alright but generally agreed to not be as good as SnW and I can't even remember the third show.
I have this page from when some dude scanned his booklet:
Don't get mistaken and think this show is a serious war thriller or anything psychological, it's not Jin-roh and it's not Kino's Journey (Though it has a similar feeling) It's a show about cute girls with more substance and depth than they tend to have.
I'll leave the OP and ED here. The ED is upbeat and Jpop as fuck and it NEVER CHANGES AND IS NEVER REMOVED. Even when the episode ends with someone getting shot.
ED isn't either, least not animated, you can go find it yourself
If you actually decide to watch the show make sure you don't miss episodes 7.5 and 13, they were extras included on the BDs and they are both fucking great.
