the books i like are the books the require you to have a dictionary at hand in order to understand half of what they are saying, i.e. books like Pride and Prejudice. you're learning and reading a wonderful plethora of magical words at the same time!

it's magic when you dont understand it. it's awesome.

You might enjoy Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep, possibly The Good Thief and Johannes Cabal The Necromancer is pretty tight.

I have not, but I have heard universally good things. Although if you aren't accustomed to much older books, the verbiage might be a little off putting at first.

Hahahah, yeah, I prefer them too, but it gets a little heady at times. Not as bad as Umberto Eco, but still.

I don't think so, no. Anything worth looking into?

If I remember right, Don Quixote was written in relatively modern English.

Quote:
In a village of La Mancha, the name of which I have no desire to call to mind, there lived not long since one of those gentlemen that keep a lance in the lance-rack, an old buckler, a lean hack, and a greyhound for coursing.

Nothing too weird. And it really is a great read.

And of course the musical Man of La Mancha is wonderful, but WHOOPS this isn't a music thread.

I'd like to read more, but every time I start reading, I get distracted and start contemplating something the text reminded me of. Like the time I, for whatever reason, thought about game theory while reading a cookbook.

Oh hey I read this fairly recently, it was a while ago so it's not too fresh in my mind but it was a very good read.

I've ordered Utopia after a friend of mine went on about it. It's about a fictional society on an island or something, I guess it's a utopia.

I really like good world building which is why I liked DADoES and LotR so much, they have really interesting settings. I know it's not the same because was written almost 500 years ago but it should be pretty interesting.

Also in the shop I work in we have a couple of old copies of Shakespeare's entire work, I'll probably buy one of them. I flicked through one and happened to stop on a page that had some lines of mine from when I was in Much Ado About Nothing, so I had a pretty big nostalgia rush.

Ah, I usually don't go in for comedic books. I have been enjoying Wodehouse quite a lot lately, but that's more because of watching Bertie and Jeeves develop as characters, and the relationship between them changing.

Yessssss it's a fantastic book, precisely as long as it needs to be and not a single word longer. There were so many scenes that were just that intense that I actually read the whole thing in one sitting.

I think Macbeth was the only Shakespeare that I actually enjoyed. A lot of his stuff has excellent poetry in it, but is severely lacking in plot, interesting people or believable characters.

We read through The Taming of the Shrew in middle school. I remember thinking it didn't feel appropriate, but it definitely felt fun.
