It probably won't be as bad as you think. The current showrunner, Meghan McCarthy is (Judging by a quick Google Search) an award-winning children's book author. So hopefully she will put the actual intended demographic first and then make the other fans more of a tertiary concern.

Apparently it's the fanon name for the super-flamboyant sea serpent in the second episode.
