A Song of Ice and Fire is good from the beginning. It gets better from book 2 onwards.

I just finished Dracula.
That. Was a actually a pretty great book.

Now I have to pick something else to read.
Options are:
Codex Alera, Les Miserables, Bypass Gemini, or find something by Neil Gaiman (I've been intending to read him for a while.)

If you want to read some Neil Gaiman, may I direct you towards Neverwhere, American Gods, Anansi Boys and Good Omens (which he did together with Terry Pratchett).

That's the thing though, I didn't find it good. Portions of it are alright, but as a whole it was an unsatisfying read and had very little character development.

Recently loaned the Skulduggery Pleasant series to a cousin. I found it entertaining, but the subplots with Vaurien Scapegrace wear a little thin after 6 whole books. The two I enjoyed the least were Playing with Fire and Mortal Coil, and I'm not particlarly sure why. They just seemed a little... off.

The series is still ongoing at a one book per year rate. I think it's up to book seven, and both 6 and 7 clocked in at over 600 pages. If there was a compilation, it'd be daisies thick.

I've never met another person who's read them, but I'm in love with the King's Blades series by Dave Duncan. They're interesting and written with snappy, dry humor, and all of them take place at approximately the same time but from the POV of different people doing their own thing, only briefly crossing paths with the narrative of another book in a way that makes you go "HEY WAIT ISN'T THAT SO AND SO" or "oh shit I know what this character is talking about!"

Dictator rules everything, noble class are amoral dicks who don't care about anything, everyone who is not noble is trash who only exists to be a cog in the machine.
