Maybe because she wasn't relevant to the court system. Katara and Zuko didn't show much, doesn't mean they're irrelevant in other aspects of those characters' lives

Except we know what those characters did through dialogue or the flashback. Sukie's name was conspicuously absent from the entire season.

Is it better to stay with someone you don't love (or don't love as much as someone else) out of obligation, or is it better to find your true love and hurt your girlfriend's feelings in the process? Mako clearly loves both of them and is having to deal with how to handle this. In the end he chose Korra, and maybe the show didn't have him outright go to Asami and say it's over (then again, he chose her in the last minute of the show. Wouldn't exactly be a good time to say "Asami, I think we need to break up" from a writing standpoint.

Keep in mind, Korra forced the facebattle on Mako because she read the air wrong. Mako could have reasoned it wasn't a big deal and not worth telling Asami, who could very well get upset over it and blame him and/or Korra. And what happened when she found out? Exactly that.

Bolin got his feelings hurt because he thought Mako stole Korra from him, or that Korra used him to try to make Mako take her from him. It was all a misunderstanding between all of them. None of them did what they did to be an asshole. Bolin wasn't "trying to force Korra to like him because she owed him for the date". Mako wasn't "being a player and leading the two girls on". Korra wasn't "being a manipulative bitch trying to make Mako leave Asami". They're just 3 kids who misread what was going on with each other and wound up in a mess.

Am I to assume that all the stuff that justifies how the characters behave happens between the scenes? Last thing I remember Mako saying to Asami was that he cares about her and that they'll talk later. I don't remember him sitting down with her and saying that 'it's over, I'm in love with another girl'. Also, if he wasn't cheating on Asami then his broken relationship with her is hardly a consequence.

We never see anyone pooping in the show. Obviously this means no one poops.

The writers can't shove everything into the show. First off, it could fuck over pacing. Secondly, it could be very boring. They had to walk a fine line between progressing the arc-plot, working in the romantic lovenangle, and having fight scenes. Being too heavy on any one of them could alienate the people there for the others. Dedicating an entire scene in the finale for Mako to talk to Asami would be weird, and especially since they wanted to save him making that choice for the very last part of the finale, having that scene would make things weird. Maybe he'll talk to her at the beginning of next season?

Very yeah. Like, again, nobody is saying Mako is an untouchable champion of romance, he's just also not a soul eating monster. Although he was flipflopping between the two girls emotionally, except for the facebattle (which Korra DID initiate) he wasn't doing anything with Korra. If spending a lot of time around someone you aren't dating is "cheating" then every psychotic date in the world has been right all along. We're shown on screen time and time again that although there's some emotion there, neither of them are acting on it at all. And if "emotional cheating" is what has people in a tizzy, which yeah that stuff is hurtful, that stuff also makes the original relationship unworkable anyway. You're not obligated to stay with someone just because they like you, and in fact, trying to force that to happen using guilt is a type of emotional abuse that forces one partner to fake their feelings for the sake of the other on the most fundamental level imaginable. It undermines the entire point of what a relationship is.

Also although I love the show and am a big fat nerd about the universe, I do feel obligated to bring up that it is a cartoon for teenagers and kids on Nickelodeon, and also I really doubt that anyone watching it is saying "yes, these people will be my role models as I enter the dating world." So while you can be ABSOLUTELY dissatisfied with how the character handled something it really shouldn't personally hurt a viewer or anything. Mako's just a dude, you know?

The Lieutenant is my role model. I can't wait to dedicate my life to something I believe in, getting my booty kicked every other week only for the leader to be a lying douchebag that kicks my booty.

He was one of my favorite characters, and goddamn do I feel bad for him.

I'm pretty much with Dire here. I didn't mind how both Bolin and Mako were represented, per se, but I strongly disliked the conclusions to their romances. Bolin's feelings are crushed and he just moves on like nothing happened - not even some minor awkwardness later? And I would've been a bit okay with Mako and Korra if the ending wasn't them jumping each others' bones with proclamations of love. The progression was just incredibly rushed by the end.

I certainly hope he survives the events and becoming a recurring good guy in the next seasons

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing moustache again. I just hope there isn't going to be one of those predictable booty-pulls where Amon comes back horribly disfigured and out for revenge.

That would have been absolutely perfect if they hadn't used watermarked footage.

And also if it had been BolinxKorra, a bloo bloo bloo

As someone pointed out on tumblr, The All Ways cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" sounds a whole lot like Bolin is singing it.

Things just went from there.
