I actually had an idea on how to re-introduce all, well most, of the past incarnations of The Doctor while using an established concept, creating a new threat and giving us a solid story

LONG IDEA, SORRY:

Series 7, mid-Series episode; We're introduced to a prolific, above average IQ leveled scientist on a random planet. His dream is to be known across the stars as one of the greatest minds ever to exist and have his work last through all of time itself. But his morals and opinions on how to do so contradict most of what The Doctor stands for. Experimenting on living beings, theft of other's work to use as his own to improve his work, etc. Meanwhile as The Doctor/companion(s) chat with this scientist (let's use The Scientist for name purposes) about the conflicting ways of going about things, disappearances of fellow villagers/citizens in the surrounding area are reported.

After a few failed attempts at finding whatever or whoever it is behind these kidnappings (hearing a scream, running to find them but find nothing/narrowly miss seeing them being taken) The Doctor asks The Scientist if he knows anything/how long it's been happening/etc. The Scientist in-between his chat and The Doctor running around the area knew The Doctor would try to sabotage and stop him and created a trap to stop him, The Doctor sidestepping The Scientist from cutting him with a blade which leads The Doctor into sidestepping into the trap, losing a piece of his hair in the process. The Scientist imprisons The Doctor against a wall with chains or something and explains the disappearances are because of him. He's been extracting the "time" from people's lives to inject himself to live longer, more time to finish and continue his work (throughout all of time, hence his motives).

Of course, The Doctor manages to trick The Scientist in a clever way, and while escaping starts a fire to burn down The Scientist's bright red laboratory and all his work. As The Doctor boards the TARDIS he shouts for The Scientist to follow and escape but he denies help and as The Doctor escapes the laboratory explodes.

Afterwards, The Doctor stands amidst the rubble and is unable to locate The Scientist's body although we pan back away from him leaving in the TARDIS and see a charred hand underneath a pile of wood/burned remains.

---

Flash forward to the 50th Anniversary's premiere. The Doctor is summoned to a planet where he is given notice he's to meet a very old friend with the initials "T.D."

As he arrives he finds the planet vacant of life and walks through empty streets. The then-companion can ask The Doctor where the person who sent the summons is only for The Doctor to be puzzled before realizing that everything they've passed is colored a different shade of red.

Reveal The Scientist's return to The Doctor's somewhat joy that he survived. The Scientist reveals that some of the work he stole was that of the reports sent by Miranda Cleaves to her homeland. The Scientist reveals originally he intended to use Gangers, and extract their "time" to use as his own as he would be duplicating his own then stealing the replicated to double his own. But the Gangers weren't able to remain stabilized long enough for the process to work. However after meeting The Doctor and doing some research he found out the TARDIS is able to stabilize Gangers and with some more research of Time Lord technology he was able to create a device (a small gun) that could do the same.

The Doctor pleads with The Scientist to not as Gangers can be living beings just like them who deserve their own life only for The Scientist to say that stealing Gangers' time to live forever was secondary to his primary goal: eliminate The Doctor from interfering.

Reveal The Scientist actually took the hair he narrowly shaved from The Doctor while originally trapping him while the laboratory was burning and shoved it down his throat so it would hopefully survive the inferno, it did. And that The Scientist then was a Ganger too he created just before The Doctor came back. He took the hair and broke it down to the smallest matter in the known universe. And in doing so extracted DNA from each previous incarnation that has lasted through each regeneration. However some incarnations didn't have enough DNA retrieved to duplicate (The First, The Second) or wasn't enough to fully duplicate which explains the older aged looks of the actors. The Doctor knowing what's next insists for his companion to run to the TARDIS quickly.

As The Doctor reaches the TARDIS we hear the sounds of various laughters before ending with all the previous incarnations available walking out of the abandoned cities/homes/buildings around the TARDIS. Evil Ganger duplicates told if they eliminate The Doctor they would be stabilized and be offered Earth as long as they didn't interfere with his work elsewhere. The Doctor escapes in the TARDIS while The Scientist is heard laughing plotting to take down The Doctor.

And yeah. That would start the 50th Anniversary which could end with "The Fields of Trenzalore" and "The Fall of the Eleventh" which I have another idea that could have the above flow perfectly into and explain EVERYTHING in a neat little bow.

Also, I didn't expect anyone to read any of this.

There is a rumor going around that Series 7 will be Matt Smith's last.

I've read 3 different rumors pertaining to that. I've seen an interview where Smith alludes to him leaving at the end of the next Series/start of the 50th Anniversary year. I've seen one of him saying he signed a renewal that takes him until the end of the 50th Anniversary. And I've read elsewhere that they're still unclear on when he'll actually be finished. Personally, I'd rather him get up until the end of the 50th Anniversary then get a 2 Hour Special like Tennant got 4 of to have one last hoorah before regenerating and leading into Series 9 (Series 8 would be the 50th Anniversary, of course).

I wonder if they will end the series after the Doctor's 13th reincarnation has ended, or if they will pull some random plot shit and use it to give him more lives or something.

You know that Stephen Moffat has already said that "the 12 regenerations only rule" was only said and doesn't mean it automatically is fact? He said he never knew where people just assumed that it was only 12, period, no questions asked. He even told the writers of the Sarah Jane Adventures to specifically have him mention he can regenerate 514 or some wacky random number times. I honestly don't think there will ever be a definitive ruling on the topic. It's still ambiguous. And I'd rather keep it that way, honestly.

And if, for whatever absolutely crazy reason, the show were to end? They wouldn't kill The Doctor and have him say "no more regenerations this time..." They would have him walk off into the sunset with a "I'll never interfere again. I'm done. Goodbye." And have him wander off to some unknown location in personal exile to live out what remains of his life in peace. They would be insane to have him die in the end if the show was ever finished.

The whole 13 regeneration limit has been stated as bull and has been retconned.
The Doctor can regenerate as many times as the plot requires.

Yeah, that bites. I started watching while Tennant was in the role, but Smith was the first Doctor who I watched their entire run of from start to finish so I consider him to be my Doctor. It just sucks, I was hoping he'd have a Tom Baker-like reign of at least 5-7 years. Oh well... I suppose 3 Series', 2 Christmas specials and maybe an appearance in the 2013 50th Anniversary will have to do.
