Actually there's a season that does call giant robots "megazords" as a reference to Power Rangers but it's only in one season

Ooh, watching all this Linkara and Gokaiger is making me think up some ideas for a super sentai show. Would anyone be interested in hearing about them?

The TL;DR: Based on Greek Mythology with the Gods as the bad guys and mythical beasts as the mechs. Then the heroes have to thwart the gods' plans to off them, stave off the sea monster attacks, and outwit the pranks pulled by minor deities. The sixth hero's mech is Cerberus. The Megazord's called the "Typhoonzord."

The Fluff: Okay, this thing is set in a world where everyone can't do anything for themselves without relying on the gods. If they don't pay the gods tribute, then they will always fail, just by the gods willing it. The gods are very opulent and heavily worshiped because of this. Our heroes are young slaves who used to be royalty of defeated nations who opposed the gods, and they do the cleaning, cupbearing, and jestering in their mountain palace. They don't like the gods very much, but they serve them well regardless.

One day, they are awoken by a great rumbling, and they run out to the edge of the palace where they see a giant beast climbing the mountain where the gods' palace is. The beast's climb is causing all sorts of landslides. The gods, too lazy to do something about the beast themselves, spot the heroes, throw them out into the sky and throw lightning bolts at them that turn them giant. The gods then order the heroes to kill the beast, and promise to elevate them to minor deities as a reward. Everyone gets a neat magical weapon to combat the beast with.

The heroes fight the beast for a while, but their battle causes a huge boulder to break off of the mountain and tumble down to the nearby town. The beast is weakened from the battle, and is at the heroes mercy. The heroes are about to slay the beast, but decide instead to go stop the boulder from destroying the town. With the combined efforts of all five heroes, they stop the boulder. The beast witnesses this, and pounces at them, tackling them into the earth, and the earth swallows them up.

When they wake up, they're all inside this underground cavern with this giant half-snake lady telling them that they've been chosen by the earth to defeat the gods and free all the humans. The giant beast from before returns with four other beasts, and they all turn into kick-booty mechs. The heroes then pilot these beasts out of the earth towards the gods' mountain, and a minor deity volunteers to easily crush the beasts. Things don't work out well for that guy, and he is easily crushed by the beasts.

The gods get freaked out for the first time in a very long time, and use their power to detach the mountain from the earth and have it float in the sky. The nearby towns are still ruled by the gods, but most of the people cheer on the heroes for their victory. Then the heroes have to thwart the gods' plans to off them, stave off the sea monster attacks, and outwit the pranks pulled by minor deities. The sixth hero's mech is Cerberus. The Megazord's called the "Typhoonzord."

Enter, sitting in the middle of the road, eating pizza like it's nobody's business.

Standing in the middle of the Road? Red Racer's gonna have an aneurysm when he sees that.

The first episode of Gaim was pretty cool. I like that the monsters are actually monsters again and never were or are humans (as far as we know).
Also, the main character is the first guy in a while who got the gear and didn't know what the heck he was doing at first, so the battle in the first episode was kind of trial and error. This probably makes him a little more relatable, and that's nice after several years of heroes who learned unnaturally quickly what to do (though in fourze gentaro kind of had direction from the other students on what to do a lot) or who had been experienced in it before the first episode even started (like in Wizard).

All in all I'd probably recommend it to folks who are fans of the earlier Heisei (pre-decade) stuff. It's pretty upbeat so far and it's cute and they're based off of fruit.

I stopped watching Kyoryuger after it became the Daigo Kiryu* Show, and I'm praying to god that ToQ doesn't turn into Right and the Rightettes. 4 episodes in, it's still promising and considering it's holding my ant-size attention span that is a good thing so far.


Also Kamen Rider Gaim leaves a lot to be desired, nearly every character sucks or is completely braindead. At least I can give that it's a really pretty show.


*Daigo Kiryu & friends maybe if the script is feeling generous but we will never let you forget that top billing goes to our god-king Lord Kiryu

does a movie or some such happen between episode 16 of gokaiger and 17? because suddenly they have the grand power of goseiger and I'm all "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat"
