Because they planned for one season and it's a kids' show so it can't have downer endings?

I wish the boat scene was the very last part, would of made a great shock twist ending.

Me and EVA-01 were like wtf at this part.

But great finale. I'm kinda confused on what they're working on for next season

I also wish Amon would of burned his face for the daisies cause but this is a kids show so whatever.

It didn't have to be a downer ending, it could have just been an ending where the characters regain their optimism for the future instead of hitting the reset button like so many other cartoons.

Regarding people complaining of "deus ex machinas", allow me to refer a quote for you

Quote:
"Deus Ex Machina doesn’t refer to any instance where something big saves the day, it’s when the plot is resolved by a contrived device. People/reviewers overuse this. God could bodaciously show up and save a protagonist and it wouldn’t be a Deus Ex Machina if the plot set it up. Similarly, a piano randomly falling on the villain to kill him is a Deus Ex Machina. Scale has nothing to do with it.

So basically, the whole story has already been set up to allow Aang to show up when needed and help Korra out. She has teh entire repertoire of Avatar knowledge at her disposal now that she can connect to her spirituality, so I don't see why the old Avatars would be willing to settle on letting their lineage AND world protector to go about the world so helpless. It makes no sense that they wouldn't help restore her abilities if they could. Sure it might've been more dramatic to see her suffer through such a stage in her life, doing her Avatar business with only airbending at her disposal, but this is how their story goes. It's certainly not something that just came out of nowhere! like a falling piano on Amon, forcing him to reveal his true pianobending abilities and losing the faith of his followers, saving the day. Aang's appearance and abilities certainly aren't something that came out of nowhere either, so I don't really see what's so wrong about it.

And who are we to say "now there won't be any plot for season 2"? Of course there will. They'll set up new things for the story to explore. Before Korra no one had any idea what this plot would be like, and we could easily have said "Without Aang there is no Avatar: The Last Airbender anymore blahblahblah QQ", but stories can move on and sometimes stretching things out can only do more harm than good in fiction. On the other hand, nothing is ever perfect, and of course there are many things that probably could have done better, but they didn't, and yet their work is still magnificent, so as far as I'm concerned I'm just going to praise the many, many things these guys did right and forgive them their mistakes and flaws in their creations.

In any case, I love the whole thing, and I lost to this.

Tarrlock's still an asshole

But yeah, I think the deus ex machina of this season can be considerably lessened by the second season. I want an explanation of what Amon was doing and how, and why exactly it affected Korra in the way it did. It would be a horrific cop-out ending if this was all there was (its still kind of awful), but I think season 2 is going to redeem it slightly.

They didn't even get the season 2 green light til they were done with season one. I'm sure that they'll find a way to blow us away next season.

Tarrlock wins the 'Not-As-Much-Of-A-Jerk-As-You-Could-Have-Been' Award.

It will be handed to him by Katara.

Gommu is an awesome hobo.

But he's a hobo so we already knew that he was awesome.

Yeah, thank Christ they're getting a bigger writing staff.

It just ticks me off that my and Bryan said that there would be consequences instead of some sort of status quo that it gets back to. Lin's sacrifice seemed to be one such thing, but then BOOP YOU CAN BEND AGAIN lessens the impact of that sacrifice.

Maybe, while Lin got her Earth bending back, so still needs to learn how to metal bend again?
