Need Runes4's review on Cory Doctorow's Little Brother:

I noticed deep, yet understandable wrighting that clearly showed his opinion of the issue. Well written that took me directly into the life of the protagonist, who is placed in a terrifying scene, then wrongfully accused of causing it. He is detained by the DHS, Department of Homeland Security, who embarasses him and eventually tortures him. The protagonist is warned to never speak of what happened. He makes a vow to get revenge.

Things I didn't expect:

-Japanese/Korean Pop Culture
-Hacking as a plot point
-Techno-babble

I've been looking for something in a non-fiction regarding either American Civil War or World War II field medics. Anyone have any recommendations?

Hey princess brothel go read Flowers for Algernon.

Also I did something lurid with your mother.

Forgive me if that wasn't as scathing as it used to be. It's been a while. I'm a little bit rusty.

Roadside Picnic is beautiful, with a fantastic ending

Forever War is about as classic as it gets, heavy on the action but still with heaps of character development

Do Androids Dream is great, if you haven't read it already

Goddamn right Ender's Game.

And maybe Xenocide and Speaker for the Dead while you're at it. If you feel like it.

Speaker for the dead yes, Xenocide please no. I personally found the religious subtext a bit much.

Anyway thanks everyone, I'll check some of those out.

Has anyone heard of the series by Barry Eisler about a character named John Rain? I've read the first 3 books and started the 4th and I think that they're good.

Catch-22 is well and truly one of the best books, if not the best, I have ever read. I would need to read it through a second time to properly review it. It comes across as repetitive at times, and Heller certainly likes the "Who's On First" dialogue style, absurdist humor, and then suddenly, Kid Sampson plane crash. I'm going to be honest, Aarfy is one of the most unsettling characters I've ever come across in fiction.

Oh noe. I'm reading Huckleberry Finn, and I can't stop using this absurd accent.

Could someone recommend me something in a medieval fantasy setting, maybe revolving around magic or a mystery?

Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Swords and sorcery, medieval-style society (kings, nobility, peasants, knights, etc.), with an epic story. And I'm not just using that word as hyperbole. Right now it's one book, self-contained of course, that stands to become just as big as Wheel of Time.

Here are the first six chapters so you can sample before buying.
