This seems the best place to ask this; if it's not then redirect me.

Game of Thrones is a popular topic among my friends, but is there really any point in my watching this show if I...
1. am completely dense with regards to politics, real or fictional, and generally don't enjoy trying to wrap my brain around them,
2. am very uncomfortable with nudity and sex scenes on the TV,
and 3. have absolutely no prior knowledge of the books or characters?

As for things I actually know/have watched, I just finished catching up with Hannibal and I am loving it with about everything I have. I polished off the Walking Dead a few days ago and really hate that I have to wait for more because it's been my baby since I found it a little while ago. I'm thinking of trying Dexter - someone said I should only do the first few seasons because it gets silly after about season 4? - and maybe Breaking Bad or The Killing next.

I need to go back and try to wrap my head around LOST again too...

I dont see why not having read the books would keep you from enjoying the show, theyre just retelling the story from the books you just have to watch the whole thing to see if you like it or not. As for the nudity, its basically an uncensored fantasy Epic, not a softcore show. You can probably Soldier through it.

If that's really the case and it's not as charged as I was led to think then I might try and find a few sampler episodes. I think perhaps a lot of the people I know have zoned in specifically on the 'uncensored' sections rather than taking the episodes as a whole, because they were presenting it as if those scenes were pretty daisies frequent and explicit. I do have a rather perverted group of friends, after all.

Pretty sure 90% of people watching the show have not read the books.

And the other 10% spend the entire time winking and grinning at each other.

started watching Pushing Daisies

apart from some oddly fast-paced exposition and sometimes being overly quirky, it's a pretty fun watch

Aw man, Pushing Daises is the best goddamn shit.
Get ready to be disappointed when it comes to an untimely end.

Super late to the party but I've finally started watching True Detective

It's like a new version of Twin Peaks and I love it

Mad Men was pretty good this week. A lot changed and it was still pretty funny. MM is always at it's best when it has a mix comedy and serious goings-on and I was glad we got an episode with good stride so early in the season. Not the first was bad but it was mostly set-up anyway.

So it was announced a whole back that Stephen Colbert is going to the Late Show and replacing Letterman, and I feel like it's a huge step down from his current job. He's done a lot of good work, and I know it sounds cliché but I actually did watch it for my regular refresher on news and current events, mainly because the comedy helped make the stupidity or depressing nature of the news more palateable. Now he's dropping his persona and going to a big broadcast network where he may have less creative freedom and I'm just wondering why. I guess they made him a good deal....

Another thing I'm sad about is that Craig Ferguson announced yesterday that he's leaving the Late Late Show at the end of the year. This especially annoys me because I only recently started watching him.

Fargo finally (four episodes in, I think) made a connection to the movie. I wasn't expecting one at all but I recognized it immediately and everyone else watching had no idea why I was so excited.

I'm very excited for "Constantine" (the Hellblazer-based show coming this fall) but also very afraid they might fail at recreating the comic's ambiance.
The trailer looks okay, though.

I'm interested in it too. I saw the trailer for it and thought "Holy shit, they 1:1 copied his wardrobe." One reason I'm cautious about the series is that it's by the same person who also wrote Man of Steel, which I didn't like all that much.

Seeing the trailer also made me realize that I've been seriously falling behind on the other two comic book series on TV right now, Arrow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hafta set a day aside to catch up on those.

Hmm this might be overly critical but the MC has too much of a babyface to look like Contantine to me. He should be... uglier? And I worry that they won't have the balls to portay him as the complete and utter backstabbing self-serving asshole he is.
