I actually appreciate the fact that there are no likeable characters. Real people are very imperfect, and if you had the omniscience about people in real life that you have about characters as a reader of a comic, then you'd probably dislike most real people too.

Out of all the characters, the only one I like is Johan. I like the fact that he's quick to do what he thinks is right, but he's also violent and obsessive.

I'm not expecting them to be perfect, but people can be likeable.

I guess, but I don't see why they need to be (or even should be) likeable.

Why would you want to read a comic about unlikeable characters? :psyduck: I understand having antagonists, or characters who are unlikeable, but it's not good writing if not even one character is likeable.

Firstly, likeability is quite subjective, as Le Great Handsome Oppressor has been so kind as to demonstrate.

Secondly, I would ask why you wouldn't want to read a comic about unlikeable characters. For example, I like Anders Loves Maria because I find the way the characters act realistic, and I find it to be an interesting investigation into the nature of relationships. Whether or not I like the characters is irrelevant.

People suck, and in general, I don't like people, so for me to expect to like a character is actually a high standard.

Well, I like people, so we differ greatly there.

To each their own, I suppose.

Comics with unlikable characters often intrigue the reader into reading more, just to see if they get what they deserve. Example: Dolores Umbridge.

That's the stupidest form of self-punishment I've ever heard of.

Even if the character gets their come-uppance in the end, you've wasted all that time getting there reading about a character you don't even like and wanted to see suffer!

Christ, if that's your goal, you can just go "I hate this character and assume they will get what's coming to them." Your imagination is free and practically instaneous. A comic takes time to update and undoubtably has a bunch of story to go through or set up in order to even get the ball rolling towards the end of an unlikeable character.

I tend to get turned off by any cartoon, comic or show where the antagonist's theme is that they are just an asshole. It's like, they're there just there to be a dick. Even if they are the bad guy, at least make them likable.

Why the hell should the antagonist be likable? It's the antagonist. He antagonizes. You're meant to hate him.

He's refering to the kind of antagonist that goes "I'm going to rob this bank just to fuck with people. I don't even need this cheddar. In fact, I'm going to just throw it in the river after I take it all." It's just being an evil douchebag.

He's not refering to an antagonist that robs a bank to fund his evil science which he will use to destroy the world. They're both bad guys but at least one of them has more of a plan than "I'm just evil to be evil."
