This is 100% a publicity stunt that will get resolved in a few issues. Even if it's "real", it's not going to last much more than a year.
This may be true, but it doesn't make it any better. It just continues to validate the cliché/stereotype/whatever it is that superhero comics are locked in endless cycles of shocking twists that never last in transparent attempts to boost their numbers. I love the heroes that Marvel and DC have in their rosters. I'd like to read comics about them that don't have to adhere to or tie into huge events, just maybe some team-ups every once in a while. Have the interconnected universe and make some cool events that are just team-ups without devastating consequences that are undone in half a year. Creating stuff like short, six-issue runs where a different creative team can show off their skills and give people something unique is what I'd want from an "event". Marvel's Knights imprint is usually used for alternative one-off arcs for individual franchises like Spider-Man or the X-Men; that could easily be used to tell not only those solo stories but also team-ups stories.
Also, apparently, people seem to be loving Rebirth. Might as well give it a look-see over the weekend when I get a chance.
