They haven't even set a date for his trial yet. His next hearing is in April, which might get protracted even further if his lawyer can pull it off.

In my opinion, Bell knows that he can't get the Chandler's off the hook. Chris and Barb are going to get hit with something, and Bell is trying to soften the blow as much as he can. He might be hoping to reach a settlement with Snyder out of court, or to use the time discrepancy between the date of the crime and the date of the trial to strengthen his stance.

I'm no legal expert, so I don't know how long this can go on. All we can really do is wait and see if the April hearing is the last one before the trial.

You're assuming the lawyer is trying to help Chris. Most likely scenario is that he knows full well Chris' case is hopeless so he's gonna drag it on for as long as he can and milk all the cheddar he can out of it. I say this because this is exactly what happened to a neighbor of mine. The other guys lawyer delayed every possible deadline he could and charged for every time my neighbor went to ask what was taking so long until it was 2 years later. There are quite a lot of lawyer fees that can pop up in 2 years.

I've been trying to figure out how Chris could possibly get "china" legitimately, I.E. not from a prostitute, and I couldn't think of anything. If he acknowledged his flaws and attempted to do something about them then maybe he would have a chance. Currently however he's just a man-child, he hasn't grown up at all and consequently doesn't deserve a girlfriend.
Sometimes I honestly just feel like breaking into his house with team of specialists and forcing him into being a better person.
