He's last generation.

This is the man whose debut novel (Elantris) was good enough that he was pegged to finish the Wheel of Time series by the dead author's estate. He's begun his own epic fantasy series with a giant brick that I couldn't put down, has been immensely prolific in other standalone works (Warbreaker for example), and he comes up with new systems of magic I'd have never even thought of while making them believable and not overpowered.

I recently finished reading Snow Crash. It was a really, really good book, it just bothered me how awesome the protagonist is. I mean seriously, if you're the guy who programmed the internet's sword-fighting physics you automatically have a the upper hand on pretty much everyone.

Lost at Sea by Bryan Lee O'Malley got here. It looks like generic teenage angst stuff so far but knowing the author I think it will be better than that.

In English, we are going to read some novels.

These are the alternatives:
    Gods in Alabama
    How to Kill a Mockingbird
    The Great Gatsby
    Catcher in the Rye
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Girl with the Pearl Earring

The class is to choose two of these.

Going for The Great Gatsby I think.
Or reading any other book than Catcher in the Rye.

It's just To Kill a Mockingbird, Trygve. It's pretty good, so I'd recommend making it your second choice. I can't say anything about the others, though, since I haven't read any.

Great Gatsby was one of the most boring books I've ever read. Not as bad as Wuthering Heights was though.

Am I a bad person for blaming The Catcher in the Rye on John Lennon's death; therefore, having no plan to read it?

God I read that book when I was like ten. Good book. Not fucking boring as all hell, like Catcher or Mockingbird.

Gods in Alabama - Haven't read, no opinion.
How to Kill a Mockingbird - Ok book, simplistic, heavy-handed.
The Great Gatsby - Terrible book, boring, heavy-handed, simplistic, gets away with having terrible characters because they're lampooning the society where this was the standard (gilded age) but frustrating to find little to no character development. Honestly I loathe it.
Catcher in the Rye - Better than average writing style, still found it kind of simplistic.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Probably my favourite of the books on this list, allows for decent characters and plot.
The Girl with the Pearl Earring - Haven't read, no opinion.

Ask if you can do "The Sound and the Fury," probably one my favourite "english class standard" books. Stream of consciousness style writing heavily used, plot is intentionally difficult to follow as the stream of consciousness loops back around a few times in different characters.

i was sort of wrong

But it still had a better general message than most books of a kind. If you read one book about teenage angst this year, read Lost at Sea by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

I think I will, actually.

After seeing you post about it so many times, I actually decided to look up a few more reviews on the book, and it sounds rather interesting.

Although, I do have one question, because it is a graphic novel about coming to age...

Are they any like, sexy scenes? Call me immature, but I'm really not too fond of those. I mean, I'll still probably buy it, but I'd like some warning.
