I got quite a few books for Christmas, the Hunger Games trilogy which was really good (especially the first book). I felt I would've enjoyed them more if I read them more slowly though (for I was finished by Boxing Day, aka the next day). I also bought the 3rd book 'The Fear' in 'the enemy' (i think that's right) series which is basically about kids and zombies. I'm currently reading the Diary of Anne Frank, which so far isn't good but rather... above average? I do like the personal insight of it however.

And awhile back we were speaking about Lord of the Flies, and I can't help but wonder how different the book would've been if girls had been on that plane too.

Just finished Johannes Cabal the Detective. Good follow up to the first, but it didn't share the vignette feel with every chapter being its own short story; went for a muder mystery instead. Worked just as well, and I enjoyed it just as much. There was one fucking scene where Johannes brought a victim back to life briefly to ask who killed him that was so intense. The guy starts talking about how he feels great, and how he thought he was going to die but obviously he must be alive all things considered. The gradual realisation was bleak as fuck; better still, that was one of the very few scenes in either book where we see the soft side of Cabal.

Shit was fantastic. Apparently there's a third, definitely going to have to pick it up.

Oh man, I do want to read that. I love John Green.

I wasn't super pleased with Paper Towns, but what are you going to do.

Two books equally close to me. Good Omens and American Gods.

American Gods: "Shadow washed his face with the restroom's liquid soap, then he lathered his face and shaved."

Good Omens: "Bilton and Scaggs' second greatest publishing disaster occurred in 1653."

"'Mr. Mell,' said Mr. Creakle, shaking him by the arm-and his whisper was so audible now that Tungay felt it unnecessary to repeat his words-'you have not forgotten yourself, I hope?'"

My laptop and arrangement of books haven't moved since last time we played this.

The Man in the Iron Mask
Quote:
"You are right," she said, "it ill becomes those who are suffering to reject the means of relief which heaven sends them."

AND THE WHOLE QUOTE
Quote:
"You are right," she said, "it ill becomes those who are suffering to reject the means of relief which heaven sends them. Speak, then; and may you, indeed, be able, as you assert you can, to assert relief to my body."

Looking good.
