His actions to her in front of her peers were extremely cold and careless at best, and emotionally abusive at worst. Not giving her what she needs to complete the lesson is failing his job as a teacher, seemingly to just make her upset. There were about a thousand different ways he could have done this without actively humiliating her, but he did it anyways.

He's right about her issues cheating, but it doesn't even come close to excusing his actions.

I read a lot webcomics on Hiveworks website, and recently i've picked up AstralAves, and I feel the best way to explain it is to describe the latest page.

A young mage named Avenarius is sitting in the middle of a forest teaching math to phantom snakes, when a Ghost Merchant shows up with a message only to pause and question the legality of teaching snakes math. The Merchant then tells Avenarius his best friend Astra (Shadow Lord Aspirant, Daughter of Moon Prince) has been imprisoned and needs the help of a living wormhole, but its gone missing in the chaos of the war brewing in the The Nocturne (a shadow dimension).
