50 bucks says the court (definitely just the Headmaster) summoned him specifically to put a leash on Annie's increasingly rebellious behavior.

Honestly, I think Anthony is a super intriguing character.

He's like a nightmare version of what Annie might have grown into without friends or her life in the forest that gave her a more positive outlook on life and the more mystical side of things. I think Anthony is desperate to help Annie despite her being the "cause" of Surma's death (which he feels he failed to stop). Also it's interesting how much older he looks now than what he looked like during that dream sequence in Fire Spike. Seems like he's been through a lot.

Tom definitely put more effort into making him look like a weathered man. I don't think this is some dumb attempt at tough love, though. It really seems like he's just bullying her, a la Snape v. Potter.

The chapter's name, I assume, comes from the tree of feelings or whatever it's called so I'm interested in exactly what that has to do with Anthony.

Like, he singled her out and deliberately humiliated her in front of her peers, and then he didn't even give her a textbook so she could follow along.

I can see where Vax is coming from as far as the 'nightmare version' comment but I don't see anything indicating that Anthony wants to help Annie. He's just been cruel so far.

No you misunderstand. I think he's a complete douche and what he's doing right now has nothing to do with helping Annie, he's just controlling and overbearing and emotionally abusive. What he's trying to help with is Annie's fire elemental half, which he sees as more or less a "curse" and a detriment to her life should she ever have a child. That is what I think he was trying to do during the Divine chapter: Remove the elemental part of her that basically killed his wife so she won't have to go through the same thing. Also he seems to have a distaste for things he can't quantify and control, making him the antithesis of something like a fire spirit.

Latest comic for Guilded Age is kinda hardcore, for lack of a better word. I feel insanely sorry for Rabbit there, his face time got halved.

Can't wait to see the aftermath though, maybe cultists will be taken seriously now.

So in Gunnerkrigg it's very interesting to see Anthony's actions contextualized. He's definitely not being as unreasonable as one would assume at first, and this is the first time in a while that this part of Annie's character is being brought up and examined.
