Read Lucifer. It was good, maybe not a masterpiece like Sandman but an epic in it's own right.

Wait, those are the thoughts and feelings you're left with at the end? Surely you must have more to say about it all. I've only read it once but it felt like such a journey.

Hmm, my thoughts were mostly about whether Lucifer is a bad guy or not. He's definitely not a good guy, but he's too self-centered to be outright evil. He doesn't want power, or to rule anything. He just wants to be free. I don't know how I feel about Elaine becoming God. It makes sense inside the story, but it's still a weird element when I think about it. I thought the ending was pretty good.

It was indeed an epic journey (and for once I use this word in the correct sense). I dunno, it did a fine job of keeping me reading (since I finished it in two days), but I didn't feel that emotionally invested in the characters. I don't generally get invested easily though, so I don't blame it on the book. Lucifer was a very interesting character though. I really liked the cover art, the actual art was good but some art styles were a bit subpar or unfitting.

Just in case you needed any more evidence that Jeph Loeb is a hack:
-In the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, the superhero Nova's secret identity has the last name Loeb, and Jeph Loeb is getting his own series revolving around Nova being a teenager.

I really REALLY, REALLY think that Loeb needs to be fired from Marvel. I hope these are just references to himself and not putting his dead son into comic books and cartoons....

The thing is that he used to be good at comic books. He worked on Batman: The Long Halloween and the Batman Hush story arc which were received with praise. Now he writes things like Ultimatum, one of the worst comic book arcs in the history of comic books.

Also, in the comic book New Ultimates #1, there was a story revolving around Iron Man and a kid named Sam (The same name as Loeb's son, who died of cancer), and Sam in the comic died of cancer.

That is the kind of messed up character inserting I would expect from a person on DeviantART, not a major comic book writer.

The thing is that it's even worse than that. While Chris-Chan inserted his dead dog into his own comics with his own characters, Loeb is inserting his dead son into major comic book series and series that involve major comic book characters, and is even REPLACING a hero (Nova) with an avatar of his son. That is massively unprofessional and things like this should not be acceptable.

From what I gather he's still dealing with the death of his son through his writing, which while slightly understandable is indeed massively unprofessional.

That is exactly what I am getting at. I would be perfectly fine with Loeb coping by creating his very own comic book/graphic novel, but what he's doing right now just isn't the right way to go about these things.

Couldn't he just right a story about dealing with loss?
Does he have to make it creepy/awkward and name the characters after his dead son?
Like, there isn't anything wrong with being inspired by real life events to change the shape of your story, but there might be a bit of a line.
