I would really like it if Amon were just Amon. That he's not some slippery snake of an existing character but rather just someone who earnestly believes in what he's fighting for.

You've got it all wrong. Amon is Pabu. Think about it: Have you ever seen both of them at the same time and place???

Wasn't he burnt by the firebenders who killed his parents or was that just assumed?
Also is he Batman?

He claimed his face was burnt by a firebender, but since we've never seen his face without the mask, he could have simply been saying that to garner sympathy from his followers. It's propaganda.

It could be propaganda. We have no way of knowing for sure.

Also, since no one answered the first time, how do we know the guy in the flashback's name is Yukone? Was it posted on the website, or what?

I'm not the only one who feckin' loves his voice. pop flyin' day.

I don't think there is a single person who doesn't love Steve Blum's magnificent voice

Anyway I finally watch the episode today and I think if any of the current characters were to be Amon, it would have to be Tarrlok. When he attacked Korra I wondered if rather than being rustled at being compared to Amon, maybe he got mad because he's afraid she might figure out he's Amon?

Even so, I think it's more likely that Amon is just Amon, and not a current character in disguise

I would think that, given the indications we have, a political manipulator as skilled as Tarrlok would know better than to react that way at having his secret identity questioned once, were he Amon. It seems evident that Korra hit a nerve deeper than that.

Then again, he did make sure to send the assistant away during the confrontation. Most likely that was so Tarlok wouldn't have to worry about bad press from having a fight with the Avatar, but also it might've been to cover his booty in case anything happened, like if Korra hit on something.

But again, that's just speculation.

He sent the assistant away so that he could blame it all on Korra.
It's obvious that there was a fight, but he'll just push all of the blame onto Korra. And everyone will believe him.

I checked the Avatar Wikia, and apparently Tarrlok mentioned him in Episode 4.

Avatar Wiki wrote:
At City Hall, Councilman Tarrlok requests permission from the United Republic Council to form an anti-Equalist task force. In order to convince the other council members, he uses Avatar Aang's defeat of Yakone as an example of the initiative that needs to be taken.

Not really Korra related, but I just finished an attempt at a map of the Avatar world.

The air nomad land is kind of lacking because I have no idea what to do with those areas.
