I agree. I've never hated a character so much that I wanted them dead, but Ashley does a very good job of writing (and drawing) genuinely unlikable characters.

I'm hoping for something gruesomely Murkoph-related.

This situation is getting dark.
And that silver climbing up the chair leg leads me to believe that something will suddenly happen in the next page. Perhaps the page will shed some (dim) light on Sette's odd ability to smell pymary, and how she was able to dig through the meat wall that held Murkoph in place using her bare fingers when her knife didn't do anything. SO MUCH TO SPECULATE.

Settle definitely has a more-than-tiny connection to the Khert. I don't expect Sette's situation to get better anytime soon. Worst case scenario is that Murkoph materializes and kills Starfish and she's in the exact same situation... except now she's dealing with an even more unhinged man who's not really bound by natural laws at this point.

I'd be surprised if Sette doesn't end up calling on Murkoph intentionally to deal with Starfish.

Ashley said on her Formspring account that, though the story is told from the perspective of Duane and Sette, Murkoph is going to be the real star of the show. I'm sure that means he's going to be making a proper entrance soon and that this story has yet to truly begin.

And on the topic of Sette's origins, it's clear she's not a natural-born human. Tail, teeth, pymary-sniffing, bare chest (how surprising that Starfish doesn't seem to notice) and no belly button, which is itself a common fictional trope meaning "not human," or at least not embryonic. The story that Nary fed her about her mother having drowned years ago is obviously bullshit, but the real question is whether or not there was a mother at all, or if Nary's parentage is strictly adoptive in nature.

I would absolutely love to see Murkoph make a gigantic, stylish intro into corporeality. The more blood and violence the better. Also, I remember that, according to the wiki, the Gefendur had lion companions when they killed Ssael. Maybe Ashley is going for irony that actually plays into the theology of the world, where the Ssaelit is accompanied and guided by an individual with those traits?
