I just watched The Dalek invasion of Earth. It was wonderful.

So I mentioned how I finally got to see End of Time. There's something that's been bothering me about it.
Maybe it was just that I was young and got the wrong idea when I watched it on tv, but I always thought that the Daleks destroyed Gallifrey during the war, which was part of why they were such a dangerous enemy, and that the time lock was to keep anyone from going back to change stuff. Like Davros, for example.
But in The End of Time, it was said that the Doctor was the one responsible because he found out what the Time Lords were planning, and the time lock was a sort of bottle holding them in.

No.
The gap between the TV movie and the series revival (about ten years) is assumed to be the the Time War, in which the Daleks (who exist to be superior and exterminate anything inferior, and they assume EVERYTHING is inferior) got into a war with the Time Lords, called the Time War. The full-out battle resulted in the end of both species, except for a few stragglers (The Doctor, the Master, MAYBE the Rani and MAYBE Susan and maybe some others. As for the Daleks, there are those bunches that keep popping up). Since the war was a big historical event, it became FIXED (it can't be changed) and it became TIME-LOCKED, meaning that nothing, not even a TARDIS, could go in or out. The Doctor used something called The Moment to end the Time War, wipe out the warring Time Lords and Daleks, and seal the war in the Time-lock. Davros' return is explained in that Dalek Caan went back into the Time War through the Time-lock, costing him his sanity, but he rescued Davros who then rebuilt the Dalek species and the events of Donna's last adventure with the Doctor explain the rest.

As for planetary destruction, Skaro (Dalek homeworld) was destroyed by the Hand of Omega (which was used by the Time Lords to harness the power to travel though time) when Davros tried to use it to give Daleks the power of time travel, but the Doctor had messed with it and instead it made Skaro's sun go supernova and destroy the planet. This is a Seventh Doctor story. After blowing up Skaro's sun, the Hand returned to Gallifrey where it had been stolen from. It is rumored that the device Rassilon used in The End of Time (to vaporize the one council member and attempt to destroy the Doctor) was the Hand of Omega.

Oh god I am such a nerd.

Okay thank you very much for clearing that up. I was a kid when the show came back on in 2005, and clearly I had some misconceptions, especially since I didn't know about it til 2006 or so and watched only sporadically for a while. I was young and it was a long time ago, and I have not since been able to go back and clear anything up. I need to watch some classic stuff, but I can't right now since online isn't an option.

Bleh. I feel stupid.

Tell him to get a life.

Or at least make him say "comfy chairs".

I watched The Big Bang 3 times over the past two days. Why? Two words:
Stone Dalek. The only Dalek since 2005 to feel threatening.

...and then it dawned on me. BOTH STORIES TAKE PLACE IN 2010. Oh, wait, no. 2012. daisies.

WEAPONS SYSTEMS RESTORING...

Also this.

Aside from the wedding ending, the Big Bang episode took place in 102 A.D. (Pandorica, Romans) and in 1996 (little Amelia Pond).

The episode, Dalek, does take place in 2012. That's the episode with the man who owns the internet, Henry van Statten. Here's a bit of trivia: He was originally going to be called Will Fences, parodying Bill Gates.

Perhaps the most terrifying part of that episode is that Daleks can climb stairs.

But perhaps the most amusing part is nobody ever thought to knock it over. It wouldn't be able to get back up.

And you what of the day:

Quote:
A life-SIZE Dalek and a set of gold dentures are just two of the objects forgotten by guests staying at a budget hotel chain during 2010.
Travelodge's lost and found department revealed the array of weird items left in its 460 hotels last year.
The bizarre booty also included keys to a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a diamond encrusted Rolex watch worth 50,000 pounds and an envelope containing 10,000 pounds.
A bridegroom was also left tied to the bed at a Kendal hotel by his friends on the eve of his wedding as a joke.
But no one remembered to untie him in the morning and the ceremony had to be postponed.
Travelodge's Jon Hendry-Pickup said: "Our customers' 'left behinds' demonstrate what a broad cross-section of people stay in our hotels."

Who would have a life-sized Dalek in a hotel...?

Don't know. Maybe it had something to do with this?

What do Daleks have to do with Deviantart, anyway?

And why would you have it in a hotel?
