In case anyone's interested, the headline act for the show I posted about is Hellyeah, a new-ish southern metal band. You might not recognize the name, but it's composed of members from pedigree metal bands: Chad Grey and Greg Tribett from Mudvayne, Vinnie Paul from Pantera, Tom Maxwell from Nothingface, and Bob Zilla from Damageplan.

Okay if anyone here is a Sufjan Stevens fan I really want to talk about Age of Adz, I got it on vinyl recently.

I think it's really fantastic and interesting, because he didn't just write an album of his with electronic elements he went all out and wrote an electronic album and changed his style to write it and wow I really like it

I like the interpretation that this part of Impossible Soul is him apologizing for making something his fans weren't used to

I never meant to cause you pain
My burden is the weight of a feather
I never meant to lead you on
I only meant to please me, however

It's right after the most intense part of the song and is just sung over a simple guitar tune

also I've almost beaten Impossible Soul in Beat Hazard without dying on like mega turbo intense mode

hm, that's really interesting. I always thought it tied into the weird love story with the older guy at the beginning but I like that.

Interpretations don't exclude other meanings

I always assumed Impossible Soul was about a gril since the dialogue seems to be between him and a woman. Maybe generally women he knew or something. Though the relationship with the guy is interesting, in Futile Devices he says he thinks of him as a brother but Get Real Get Right seems to be about having to reject something he loves to "get right" in the eyes of his lord, maybe god, maybe a metaphorical lord.

A lot of the songs seem to deal with him having some personal dilemma

Sufjan, follow the path
It leads to an article of imminent death
Sufjan, follow your heart
Follow the flame
Or fall on the floor
Sufjan, the panic inside
The murdering ghost
That you cannot ignore

In Vesuvius he's stuck between following the "path" or his heart, whether this is about following the expectations of him as an artist or some personal relationship. Another interpretation is that it's about living in the moment, he's been quoted as saying that as a younger person he was very meticulous and planned but now he's more impulsive.

The first part of

I'm insecure
For it is all
Been made to plan
Though I know
I will fail
I cannot
Be made to laugh
For in life
As in death
I'd rather be burned
Than be living in debt

Would fit that, he's scared to abandon plans even if they'll fail. He wants to follow his heart but this ghost of failure haunts him

All For Myself is mad homo and pretty straightforward though I still don't get what a "running knife" is.

Wow

the first time I listened to Vesuvius I thought it said Sufjan in that part but then on subsequent listenings I thought it said Sufiya but actually looking at the lyrics you're right

neat

while we're on the subject of interpretation I always like to ask people what they think of Free Bird and Big Bird on Knife Man

and I guess Knife Man in general

Big Bird is about Big Bird, I thought it was quite transparent

Local rock station is going to debut Alice in Chains' new album in full pretty soon.

I'm super hyped.

Every time I go to a CD store I am reminded that I don't listen to a big enough variety of music

"Oh hey its that band I've only heard one song from, I wonder if their album is any good"
"What? I don't know every single song by this band I know so well? Crap man"

my policy of "like one song buy the whole album" has been a complete disaster
