That's the same teleporty effect from when John stuck his hand in the Sburb logo. We're waiting on more things to be done, possibly relating to John as well. And Jade said he was obscuring his scent with his windy powers. I think Jade is wrong and there are actually several Johns running about. Or he keeps teleporting and not letting her lock on. Because I don't think John is actually going to do that scent thing passively and he doesn't know about grimbark Jade yet.

You get a glimpse of him just before the flash cuts out entirely. Looks like she gives him a nice solid kick.

But I don't think he's purposefully obscuring his scent, that's just a side effect of being a big blue blustering pajama asshole
