Ok, while ranting I overlooked the actual emotion he shows, and honestly, I want to like Dril. I see all the good parts about him, but his flaws just hit too close to home. There were so many good friends in my life that I can't stand anymore and Dirk reminds me of all the good times we had, then the bad times.

Also, wasn't it like 2 weeks back that everyone hated dirk and I said he was cool and I didn't care? How times have changed.

I still don't like Dirk. Despite his angst, he still seems like a huge mary sue. Let me just perfectly and without flaw execute this plan over multiple timelines and dimensions that involves my own death, saving 2 of my friends from death, and getting 3/4 houses into the medium simultaneously. Then let's be immune to the thing that's stated to alter your personality wildly just because we're sooooo tortured.
And then let's create a mind-clone of ourselves in which all conversations follow the same basic pattern.
But before all this we have to raise ourselves, teach ourselves english and learn the intricacies of robotics so well that we can make 2 functioning robot bodies, and 3 functioning AIs. All without ever having interacted with another human being.

Roxy has an excuse for being able to speak english, etc, she had the exiles, who DO speak English to teach her.

the whole point of Dirk is that he was basically brought up finding out how to play sburb and build robots and be a badass and as a result he has no fucking idea how to deal with his own emotions or have a proper relationship or even like
talk to people like a normal person

you're also forgetting that Dirk is ONLY good at Sburb and Robots and nothing else- Homestuck isn't about Sburb anymore. Not really, it's about Lord English, it's about the multiverse, it's about dreams and the afterlife and Dirk doesn't know SHIT about that

like 'i hate him cuz he's bad at talking to people' and then 'i hate him because he's too good at things' like um is there not a conflict there is talking to people and emotions not his flaw
you can have a badass character who's flaw is... normal people shit. that's like, the main thing that every videogame about a badass character has been doing for a little while now

I'm gonna agree with Turbo on this one. I want to like Dirk, really I do, but when he's the one who bodaciously does every significant thing to advance the game, it's not as interesting to me.

Maybe someone could quit bitching about their fake emotional problems and do something for themselves for once instead of leaving it all to the one guy who has bodaciously been training his entire life for this.

I'll say it once and I'll say it again:

I just occurred to me that Dirk is probably the new Vriska. He's pretty much designed with one-half traits that piss people off, one-half explanations for why he has those traits. But instead of being a huge bitch and killing teammates, he's hyper-competent and saves everyone's lives all the time.

Dirk is the Anti-Vriska.

And yet people don't want to gouge out their own eyes when they read Vriska's pesterlogs.

I always did. Hated that bitch.

I do, but not for difficulty reading.

Another fun fact: Vriska and Dirk's chat colors are almost complete opposites.
