I loved the movie. I think what people feel dissapointed about is that it's not an action movie the trailers made it look like, and it's too slow for their taste. Personally, I didn't really have any expectations because I didn't really care or pay attention to the trailers. I enjoyed the film.

I like his style. I suppose most others do too. Plus he's a really nice and respected person.

Same.
I can't exactly put my finger on why I didn't like it. I'm sure the amount of German actors (or comedians, because that's what some of them were) is part of it, though.
I'm still saying that most Germans are bad actors (Tatzel would disagree), and those in this movie are no different. I guess it's worse if you can actually understand them.

Also, Pitt's accent just sounded wrong.

The Jew Hunter was amazing though. I despised the character's arrogance and smugness and lack of humanity towards everything. That's a sign of either a well-developed character, or an extremely talented actor.

Actually I thought he was really under-developed.
All he did was being a smug asshole. That's not exactly a new concept.
He was played well, though.

That's my point.

I know. That's why I said it.
Still, I would've preferred an interesting character over a great actor. This movie was just too full of one-trick boners.

I think a good actor is the best.

Say you have a well developped cahracter that has the potential to pull peoples heartstrings by just reading the script, but then is potrayed by ann booty of an actor, it loses all its original qualities and just plain sucks. (The Highlander)

Now, say oyu got a bland character without much history or development time, but you get an amazing actor to play him, the actor can do all sorts of things to make the characters mroe interesting and good, despite the lack of development or depth. (The Jew Hunter)

My problem with that is that the only sort of interesting character in the movie was Shosanna, in my opinion.
Hans Landa wouldn't bug me as much if he had stood out simply because he's not especially deep, but still well portrayed.
But if you look at the cast, that's what all of the Basterds were like too, as well as Zoller. They were all relatively flat characters, but they weren't played badly.

Well, the point of the movie was to be a parody of spaghetti-western films set in a World War era, similar to how Tarantino's Kill Bill films were parodies of Japanese/Chinese action films. Now I haven't seen many spaghetti-western films so I can't really say whether it was a good portrayal or not, but maybe the flat characters have something to do with that.

I'm not saying it's a bad movie, just that I personally didn't really like it.
And I wasn't aware that that was the point. I knew basically nothing about this movie before watching it, except that it's by Tarantino.
I guess now it makes more sense, yeah. But even knowing that I doubt I'd have fun watching it.
