Well, I managed to find a segment of the fandom thats even more annoying than the shippers - the fans that insists that there are no gay relationships on the show because the Gems are "genderless". Its a fucking naming convention so the show wont be outright banned from syndication for fucks sake, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck THEN ITS A SHOW ABOUT LESBIANS!! Or, more accuratly, its a fantasy adventure show that happens to have same-sex relationships on it, HORROR OF HORRORS THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

But isn't that the excuse that the fans use to deflect comments of it being "Tumblr bait"
I've never seen it used as a "It's better when I pretend it doesn't exist lalalala" excuse

I mean it gets a lot harder to deny the existence of space lesbians when you realize that, based on the characters we've seen, all gems present as female and/or gender neutral. Probably makes it kinda hard to be hetero.

I don't think the show would gert banned from syndication if the lesbian couple was overt.

1: there actually uis an overt lesbian couple, though they've only been in the background of two episodes.

2: wasn't there an overt lesbian couple in Clarence? on the same network? I'll admit I might be wrong.

There's a difference between having a background couple and having a large part of the characterization of one of the main characters be her love for another woman. From what I've read CN is fine with it themselves, but they still have to be able to actually AIR the show, and people have barely come to terms with same sex couples in adult media. Even if the US didnt have this problem, many of CN's larger foreign markets such as Australia are notoriously conservative with this stuff.

the whole point is to make sure the cluster never hatches, because it hatching will bodaciously destroy the planet

so more than likely it will either
A) not hatch
or
B) hatch at the very end of the series

and you seem to be under the assumption that this isn't a character driven show. this isn't a whatever plot. there's clearly an end-game idea in mind, and this show isn't gonna last beyond it.

Okay, so I suddenly decided to get into this series. I totally didn't stay up until 4am a couple of nights ago to catch up. Noooope. Not at all.

Anyway yeah, it's a character driven show and whatever but why introduce this very significant world-crisis plot point if they plan to keep this show going? This just seems like the end, and I feel like people aren't going to like that and demand more, which never goes well.

As for the ending itself, it's pretty vague to just say "they stop it from hatching". The question is how.
