Now, the question is, do the mass-produced gems all have the same default appearance, or do gems just kinda know to identify them by the stone in their bodies over their appearance (for obvious reasons)?

She fought alongside Rose, and Jasper battled Rose

And didn't last Monday's episode have her simulating fighting Jasper over and over to protect Rose

mass produced gems seem to be hinted at but they also seem to be somewhat of a minority, pearl is the only example we have of one who could be part of a "series", and even then that's just guessing right now.

actually pearl's backstory is really interesting to me and i want to know more about it. i have a theory i feel is fairly sound but it's a whole stack on top of other unconfirmed things.

though i'd trade all of her character development for just a week of garnet episodes because garnet is the best character in the show hands down

My friend's gemsona is Moissanite and together with Tanzanite we'd make Kornerupine and if this ain't the raddest combo of dark blue/purple and white gems you've seen get out of my face.

We don't have designs for Kornerupine though because I'm still not pegged down on Tanzanite yet. Moissanite is here though.

I've watched the show about a dozen times now, pretty good. Creative concept too. I have to say my favorite character is Lion.

So, anyone seen the 'what are gems?' short? I'm unfortunately not in a position to watch it right now, but from what I've heard it was pretty informative.

It also have us that gem (hah) of a line which I have immortalized in the thread title until some better line happens.

Yeah, I loved that short. It was a cute little animation, but as expected, it didn't have anything new.

I think Jasper is a forced fusion

A lot of people argue against that because of the fact Peridork is experimenting with forced fusion so why would there be a successful one right there?

But I say to that theory bullocks. The testing could easily be for broken gems or multiple gem forced fusion.

But she said right at the beginning that, and I quote, "Fusion is a cheap tactic to make weak gems stronger"
Wouldn't make sense for her to say that if she's a fusion too
And don't even argue that she doesn't know she's a fusion because that would be super dumb

Also we have no idea if anything like that will be touched on this week
I'm keeping my expectations low so if something big happens it will really blow me away

You say it would be dumb, but I think it would be a pretty big blow to someone who thinks as highly of themselves as Jasper.

yeah no we know how gem fusion works and saying "but she was a forced fusion and she didn't know" would be dumb and out of nowhere

not to mention somewhat contradictory. we've been inside malachite's head, and there's just jasper and lapis. we also know that jasper fought rose, which makes her several thousand years old minimum. the crystal gems are all around the same age, and they had no idea about the experiments. which means they're relatively recent.

the point is that's just about the dumbest theory i ever done heard.

The only piece of evidence that I've seen people use to support the 'jasper is a forced fusion theory' is the stripes on her skin, but that's just what jasper looks like sometimes. Tiger jasper specifically is striped like that.

gem forms really aren't very well explained in-show. maybe what are gems makes it more clear, but i still haven't watched it because it seems to have disappeared off the face of reddit.

gems are bodaciously hard light. the only part of them that is "real" is the gem, and the rest is comprised of basically a physical hologram that they can change at will.
