Copied over from the Western Cartoons thread.

Didn't get a chance to see the season 4 premiere until yesterday, and I thought it was pretty good. I don't think it was the best premiere, but still satisfying. Like everyone else, I enjoyed the flashbacks to Celestia defeating Nightmare Moon and Celestia and Luna defeating Discord. Also the Tree of Harmony was p. neat. What I don't understand is if Celestia and Luna knew that taking the Element of Harmony from the Tree would drain its magic and eventually cause the Everfree Forest to grow wildly(albeit with Discord's help), why did they let Twilight and the others keep them?

Probably because she knew that they would be best used elsewhere, which came in handy when she had to banish Luna/Nightmare Moon, and when Twilight and the gang had to use them to un-Nightmare Luna and defeat Discord. They also knew that the Tree of Harmony could last a while without them.

I liked the saddlebags they were wearing when they were fighting Discord. That was a nice touch.

OK, I can see that. Don't really remember what the saddle bags were.

I went ahead and watched it since I'm going to be gone all day Saturday and I am not a patient man.

Pretty good, I'm definitely not disappointed with this season so far. I like that they essentially found a new way to give the moral of the episode. Also totally called Pinkie Pie being the Pony of Shadows.

I loved the entire episode. It was cute and funny and great. And yeah, the twist was kind of obvious. Also zecora is the pony that appears at the end I guess? http://i.imgur.com/97I6SRy.png It would make sense. She does live in the everfree. Also this episode was written by one of the new writers. I can't wait to see more from this person.

That was a great episode. I especially loved the rivalry between AJ and RD continuing and the duo of Fluttershy and Rarity.

You know, I just realized that I think some of the best episodes of MLP are the ones that show the Mane Six taking their Elements of Harmony and/or best qualities to the extreme and having to learn a lesson as a result.

Here's what I mean:

Twilight-Lesson Zero: There's such a thing as being too organized and strict about deadlines when it causes unneeded stress.

Applejack-Applebuck Season: There's such a thing as working too hard and being too honest when it causes you to drive your friends away.

Rainbow Dash-Griffon the Brush-Off: There's such a thing as being too loyal when it causes you to ignore conflict between two friends.

Pinkie Pie-Baby Cakes: There's such a thing as having too much fun when it causes you to ignore your responsibilities.

Rarity-Suited for Success: There's such a thing as being too generous when it causes you to become nothing but a people-pleaser.

Fluttershy-Stare Master AND A Bird in the Hoof: There's such a thing as being too kind when it causes you to do things you aren't comfortable with or prepared for(Stare Master), or if it causes you to meddle and stick your nose into other people's business without understanding the situation(A Bird in the Hoof).

Ah yes, the Applejack episode where she orders all her family around and makes them rebuild the barn for her after she breaks it.

I dunno, I may be remembering a different episode. She doesn't have a lot of episodes that I can recall.

EDIT: Yeah, I was. I think I just have it out for that one episode.

Yeah, she doesn't have a whole bunch featuring just her. It's one of the reasons I think AJ is a bit of a weaker character than the others.

ALSO I need to amend my previous statement about Fluttershy. The basic premise is still the same, but she actually has THREE episodes featuring this idea, the third being Green Isn't Your Color. This one features the idea of being too kind to where it causes you to do things you aren't comfortable with.

This week's episode was kinda...boring. Everything was super predictable and idk everyone seemed like they lost a few IQ points.

One big thing I don't understand is why did Celestia leave all of those books behind 1000 years ago? There's bound to be information in them that's not in Canterlot's library.

I do like the amount of continuity this season is building up. Also I think that the pony shadow at the end might be Starswirl, since iirc he's supposed to appear sometime soon.

Next week's ep:

Quote:
“Daring Don’t” — When Rainbow Dash discovers that the new A.K. Yearling book she has been eagerly anticipating is delayed, she recruits her reluctant pony friends to spring into action to ensure the book gets written. However, when the boners arrive to help the famous author, they soon discover that A.K. Yearling has a secret that sends Rainbow Dash and her pony friends on an unexpected mission.

Sounds pretty fun, can't wait.
