I liked the first movie and the Penguins spinoff TV show. Everything else can be buried where E.T. Atari was for all I care.

It irks me to no end that the movies and the TV show have different voice actors for all the Penguins except Skipper, even the movie based off of the show

Anyway,
The Peanuts Movie is coming next year, which is awesome
And a Rachet and Clank movie, strange but awesome
And a couple other new animated movies that could be hit or miss

Real talk, spoilers be ahead.

I feel like they've completely stepped away from anything that made the book(s) great in this one. In the previous ones I could get into them using material from the Silmarillion which really only helped to flesh out what's happening with Gandalf and Sauron when Bilbo and the dwarves were out on shenanigans. This movie though consisted of just the last three or four chapters, in which there was nothing to get deeper into. So we're left with Thorin being a crazy dick, a completely nonsensical bit of Legolas backstory, an unfleshed interspecies love story, and fight scenes that last forever but yet fail to impress quite like previous films did.

And then there were the bits just took me out of the movie, like sudden mountain goats out of nowhere, a hundred human peasants fighting off an Orc army and Azog's magical drifting armor.

All in all I'm kind of disappointed.

It seems like they really dropped the ball on this, which is sad because I loved the book. We all knew where this was headed when we heard it would be three movies, right?
You can't make three long movies from a short, lighthearted book like that and hope to maintain quality. They could have easily made two good movies and cut all the fat
out, but I guess that wouldn't have made as much cheddar. =/

But they needed to shoehorn in a love triangle in an attempt to get people emotionally invested in the movies and a female protagonist so that all the usual news sites wouldn't label the movies a patriarchal sausage-fest.

In all seriousness, I'm sad that this movie is going to do well in the box office because of the LOTR brand power rather than on its merits as a movie. Desolation of Smaug had some redeeming points (I enjoyed the conversation between Bilbo and Smaug, for one) but a movie that's put together with so little of the actual source material's content left can't be good.

You can hardly blame him for that though.

I saw Big Hero 6 with a friend tonight. It was pretty darn good, a lot more emotional than I was expecting.

I had a few minor gripes though. Not too many surprises, I'm a little tired of superheroes always being exceptionally gifted in some way a la Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, etc., and Baymax getting trapped in the vortex thingy didn't affect me at all, because he's a robot. Hiro can rebuild him. And does.

Sony's decided to pull the plug on The Interview. It's no longer appearing in any theaters. nor does Sony have any plans for releasing it online or on disk. The hack and subsequent leak of information's sent Sony Pictures reeling, and I guess this is their parting move. The movie company is going to have to do some serious work to earn back the trust of its investors and that of the consumers.

I looked into it further, and I feel bad for not also mentioning that Sony's pulling of the film was a response to many big theater companies refusing to show the movie. Even if Sony hadn't officially reneged on the movie, there most likely wouldn't have been any theaters willing to show it come Christmas.

Yeah it's pretty bad, The local theater near me was gonna show it but had to cancel because Sony told em too. I guess the hack is from NK like some thought. I also heard that it might make it's way to Crackle at some point.

All I know is that when The Interview finally goes to video the thing is gonna sell like hotcakes. So much publicity.
