I would've missed half of this stuff at least. Good thing we've got history buffs!

I just saw the Lego Movie. I loved how "The Old West" just stayed floating in the sky. So many other moments too. And the Unikitty.

I watched Rise of the Guardians for the first time today. It was pretty great. I liked the art and animation a lot, and their take on the characters. Some parts the animation was weird though.

Everyone pretty much knew it but here's some actual proof that the voters give absolutely zero fucks about animation:

http://www.cartoonbrew.com/award-season ... 96680.html

One of them practically fucking says "I don't care because it's all for children."

I really do wonder who would've one had the voters actually cared.

Who even really cares about the Academy Awards anymore?

There are a decent amount of people that still care and the least the voters could do is take their responsibility seriously. Sure, the internal politics of the academy may make a lot of the awards jokes, but when you have judges that don't even watch the movies they're supposed to vote on, the whole sham becomes a lot more clearer.

At least it seems like most of them (though 7 is a laughable sample size) don't vote on the movies they didn't watch. The alternative would be much worse. And honestly, this is preferable to judges voting on categories they don't care about.

Not really considering that most don't even care enough about the category to watch even one of them or more than one.

Even the one that says they watched all of them and can't decide seems fishy. That's the kind of response you give when you realize you were probably supposed to watch them and didn't want to get caught saying something like "Frozen is a marvelous take on one man's quest to find his princess and save her from an evil ice witch."

It just makes the Oscars seem like even more of a joke than they're already considered. People who have been given the ability to vote on the nominees should watch all the films, period. If they don't feel like it, then the voter status should be passed on to someone who genuinely cares. If they watched all of them and it sounds like they honestly can't decide, then that's fair. If it's just a one sentence explanation, then that shouldn't cut it.

It's hard to find people with cinematic credentials who hold an interest in all categories though, let alone about 6000 of them. I mean, has anyone here watched all nominees (including foreign films)?

No but I'm pretty sure they send them copies of the movies in said categories in advance to watch them if they haven't, don't they?
