And musicals because it's the Academy we're talking about.

He won for Spirited Away a while back.

I'm honestly shocked Monsters University didn't beat out DM2 or The Croods. Of those two I've only seen the former, and while it was well animated MU certainly seemed miles above it in terms of story and artistry, at least in my opinion.

Wait Spirited Away actually won? Good good ok then. I still hope he wins this year but at least I won't be hypermad if he doesn't

After seeing Frozen for the second time my main conclusion for my dislike for it is the fact that the story itself is so poor.

My main beef is that I love Hans Christan Anderson, and The Snow Queen is one of my favorite stories. Now seeing what it was shaped into, I see a story that is completely unrelated to the "inspired content", which in a way is alright but its also false because that's what it was advertising itself as.

How did anyone even know where Elsa ran off to? This movie had so many confusing gaps in it.

Saw A Wolf On Wallstreet. It was decent and pretty funny at times, but the pacing was kinda weird. Especially the first part to build up the debauchery felt kind of unnecessarily drawn out. The ending was pretty eh too.

Watching Twelve Monkeys right now. This isn't at all the kind of movie I thought it was.

Finally got to see Frozen. I have to say that the things they did right, they did very right, such as the relation between Anna and Elsa, the interactions between most characters and Elsa's power incontinence having shades of depression where she isn't able to pay attention well to those around her. The things it did wrong in my eyes bothered me a lot though, like the timeframe of the whole movie.

Overall, Kristoff is just the best character.

Let's talk about how Pacific Rim is a good movie that I just saw for the first time.

I liked it, but it struck me as very rushed. Like, the events of the movie could've been spaced out over three different movies and given some of the characters more development. With what there was, it kind of devolved quickly into super action, and you don't really have much time to get a feel for the characters.

"Oh, that person died. Are we supposed to feel sad, or something?" is pretty much all you can think when a character who's had 3 seconds of screen time dies.

I don't think you're supposed to let most of the deaths too seriously. That said the movie really goes fast. The beginning goes through the stages of "Kaiju then we were winning then we were not winning but now we are poised to win again." In like 15 minutes. The most structured and slow parts of the movie are Charley Day running around Hong Kong. The plot being super structured was clearly not the main focus of the film, and I can respect that.

saw American Hustle the other day

other than a few small complaints, it was pretty neato. Recommended.

Have I just not been paying attention the past few years, or are there an abnormal amount of sequels/prequels/remakes scheduled for 2014? I didn't realize how many there were until a few days ago.

This shitty trend has been going on for a while now. If you start counting actual original IPs it's even sadder.

Looking at the list. I think around 70% of the movies didn't need a sequel
