We watched a ton of movies on the band trip this weekend, so I'll give quick opinions of the ones I hadn't seen before.

Shaun of the Dead: Decent, had some funny moments. Honestly, I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to it.

Across the Universe: OK, I liked a lot of the remixed Beatles songs, but DANG what is going on in this movie?!?

Mean Girls: Funny, but SERIOUSLY overhyped. It's good, but not amazing.

Step Brothers: Guys, I've seen Will Ferrel's testicles.. I don't feel safe anywhere anymore.

World War Z: Oh my gosh those zambos are making the STUPIDEST FACES. Also clicking.

Halloween(for five minutes before everyone started complaining that they didn't want to watch it): This has got to be the highest number of sexual references I've ever heard in the span of five minutes.

Pitch Perfect: Again, liked the music quite a bit, but I really didn't like many of the characters. Also quite overhyped.

Oh, and I guess I saw the 10 minutes of Up that I'd never seen before. So yeah.

You go fix that right now son.

And exactly what 10 minutes of Up are we talking about? Cause that could have been a mild misdemeanor or a serious crime.

I'm not saying Shaun of the Dead was bad. In fact, I'd watch it again, if only to be able to critique it better. The thing is that it was 9 PM, I was on a bus full of band kids, I was tired, and I was playing Pokemon. Not an ideal movie watching scenario. What I remember was decent, but that's only because I was only watching like less than a quarter of it.

And the 10 minutes of Up I'd never seen was the part where they just got to South America, before they meet Kevin and Dug.

Shaun Of the Dead IS pretty great, I especially like how in the ending everything just goes right back to normal once everyone gets used to the zombies, like a week later. Its extra hilarious if you remember that Romero style zombies ARE actually pretty harmless as long as you dont let them trap you, theyre too slow to be any sort of threat if they dont have you surrounded. Dawn Of the Dead is a perfect example of that.

Sorry, I was responding to the part of you not paying attention to it, not saying your review was inherently wrong. It's one of my favorites, and it's got so many little bits crammed into the movie that part of the joy of it is paying attention to everything. I'd recommend giving it a second go personally.

Oh, haha, yeah, I definitely will. It's just that we put it in and I'd never heard of it before, so I was just like "Oh, some zambo movie, whatever, Pokemon time", and then I found out later that everyone loves it and I was like "Well, shoot".

I saw Gravity yesterday and loved it. Neil Degrasse Tyson needs to calm down about the scientific accuracy of the movie and just enjoy it, though. He's been talking about it on Twitter quite a lot. Definitely wouldn't want to go see something like The Hobbit with him, that's for sure. Even Chris Hadfield, an actual astronaut, understands that artistic liberties had to be taken for the sake of the story. He was at the premiere of the show and came up and answered a question (at around 12:35 on the video):

Yeah, Shaun of the Dead is a movie about details. I watch it every year (strangely it seems to be an Easter tradition in my family), and I still find new things and dialogue I've overlooked.

You gotta kinda pay attention to it, and it's not always action packed, but the sheer concentration of shit going on in the movie makes it great.

@Burnt, I don't generally like Tyson when he gets into controversies like this because I think it brings out the worst in him, but I got to agree. When they're making a disaster movie that's supposed to be based on real occurrences, it's annoying when they gloss over things like fundamental laws of physics and science for the cool factor.

It's like The Core and The Day After Tomorrow. The intent is honorable, but the result just makes the viewing audience buy into false pretenses.

Oh God damnit, is he really becoming "that guy"? It's one thing to joke about movie inaccuracies with friends, but really no one likes that douche who is just going to be like "THAT wouldn't happen!" every 5 seconds. I thought he was so cool to.

*dreams shattered*

I JUST WALKED IN AND IT WAS LIKE HALFWAY OVER. THE WHOLE TIME i WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT!
I feel bad judging it while not having seen the whole thing, but I really doubt anything would justify that second half.

it certainly felt like seven days.
And Pacific Rim Night tonight with the homies! I'd say this redeems them.
