I really didn't like LOTR. They're important books, especially considering how peculiar they were compared to the other works of the time, but fuck daisies are they ever dry. I mean jesus, would it kill him to get some tone in there.

Oh good I'm not the only one who thinks that. Tolkien did a lot for fantasy but daisies if it didn't make the ones studying him work for it. Got through Fellowship, Two Towers, and halfway through Return of the King before I just lost all interest.

Then the movies came.

To this day LOTR stands as one of the few books (or series) I could not get through.
Of course, I was in fifth grade when I read them. But even then I hated the writing style and decided screw that.

Oh my god, who feel what I feel! I tried to tell a friend in high school why I couldn't read the LotR books. Basically it boiled down to having paragraphs upon paragraphs of detail and scene-setting with a few sentences of actual necessary plot-relevant things.

Yeah, they were pretty hard to get through, in fact I actually fell asleep while reading them many times. He does ramble on a bit, but I still want to give it another shot.

At the very least I can have to books just to have them.

I read through them at least 8 items, I don't really remember. I kind of went through a fanboy phase I guess, I can't even remember what I liked so much about the daisies things.

Although I still sometimes get a light urge to go through 'em again, but I doubt that will happen within the next five years.

I prefer The Hobbit over LOTR honestly, I think I read that 10 times or so. Much lighter and pleasant to read.

My copies of Two Towers and Return of the King have yet to be opened. After five years they still have that "new book" smell.

So Utopia arrived and I just finished reading all the notes and stuff about the author.

Thomas More was a really cool guy, I might read into him more later.

Naive.Super by Erlend Loe is a pretty fun read, which I recommend to people. It's about this guy who just doesn't know what to do with his life anymore, drops out of school and such and travels.

Look it up.

I have a brand new $25 Barnes and Noble gift card and a distinct lack of books on my wishlist.

I prefer quality YA urban fantasy mostly, that is not vampires. Perusing the store's shelves revealed a dearth of books without the fuckers.

Started reading Rough Crossings by Simon Schama

It's about slavery or something. Can't get past the 3rd page.

The Dresden Files are always good. You don't even have to start at the beginning of series, I started with Proven Guilty.
