They could do so much more with it if it was hand-drawn, though. D:

Something about the way the animate mouths while characters are talking makes me really uncomfortable.

I thought it looked kind of awkward.

Isn't hand-drawn animation far more expensive?

I doubt they have the budget for that.

For that I'm thankful. Also like Zink mentioned, I think budget is a big part of it.

I hate flash with a passion when used like Adult Swim shows

I've seen it used to make excellent animations before and this is a bit better then most.

Still, it could be better.

Hand-drawn animation is in many cases more expensive, but that doesn't mean that a company with the resources should just rely on quick-and-dirty computer techniques to push out some show.

CGI 2-D animation is okay in certian cases like El Tigre, where nearly everything has a texture and thus has more detail than a traditional animated tv series. It looks different, slicker and may feel different if one watches it but that isn't necessarily bad. Then there are just some cases where it's cheap and makes the show worse (take for example many of the Cartoon Network/NickToons shows that were made in flash, lasted one season then faded into obscurity.)

CGI is also pretty cool when it's used discreetly in a traditional animated production either for coloring (which is what they mostly do nowadays since it is cleaner) or for 3D or large expansive detailed environments. For example, the Planet Express ship and most of the ships in Futurama are computer generated when they're in motion most of the time, but it doesn't look out of place.
