Try looking at it objectively instead.

This was clearly meant to be a series finale instead of just a season finale, and suddenly they have to work on Season Four and then work on this episode gets delayed, then rushed, and then it comes out unpolished. I sincerely doubt that it was supposed to be like this. There were a lot of ideas about the episode that I like, and unfortunately they all got in the way of one another. I like the idea behind a musical episode(though with seven songs, it should have been split into two episodes, I mean yeesh, the Season Two finale had about half as many songs and IT was two parts), and the longer songs, which clearly had more time and effort put into them than the shorter ones(possibly due to the aforementioned rushing of development of the episode) and therefore were probably written earlier than the others, I found really good, even emotionally moving(Celestia's song got me all teary ;_;). Also, the plot of the episode was interesting, and it closed the continuity gap from the season opener with Star Swirl's book. If all of these ideas had been spread out more, instead of being clumped together like they were, I honestly think it could have been a good episode.

And yes, Twilight is an alicorn princess now, and no, it's not ideal for starting a new season. But now that it's happened, where do the writers go from there? I think there could be some interesting things that happen as a result. How about Twilight has to make an important decision as a new ruler, but can't find a solution to satisfy everyone? How about she feels bad about getting special treatment when her friends don't because of her new status? Seriously, this is not series-ruining, and it's certainly not "jumping the shark". The weird Equestria Girls show is more akin to that.

This is the story of missed potential, and while a sad one, doesn't mean that EVERYTHING IS RUINED AUGH EVERYONE GO HOME MLP IS DEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAD. All that's left to do is wait and see what Season Four brings.

Objectively? That's basically the same as critically. Shit, if there's anyone that would be subjective about this, it's me! And maybe a shit ton of heretics who are touting this as the best episode yet.

I never said that the series is terrible now, although season 3 has been kind of lacking. I'm just saying this episode was really bad. The premise was cool and a musical is something people have been wanting for a while, but this was nooo. The entire thing was nothing but expository song after expository song with barely any time to take in what you just saw. The songs themselves, while a few of them catchy, are pretty lyrically poor. Like, read the lyrics to True True Friend. Kind of dumb. The only one that got me was Celestia's but only because I've grown attached to Twilight over the past few years and the retrospective produced some "feels", as the kids call it. For someone who doesn't necessarily care about her, I doubt they would have the same reaction. OH, by the way, the last 7 minutes are basically a toy commercial. Look at Twilight! She's a princess now! She has wings and a dress and a crown and she can even fly! So, that also means the main conflict of the episode was solved in, oh, 15 minutes.

As I said before, I have no problem with alicorn Twilight. Here's basically my reaction towards it. Just, okay. Sure. Go for it. That still doesn't excuse a shit episode of a show that's slowly been declining in quality. On the bright side, the only way from this point is up, so...

Yeah. judging by all your talk, I'm gonna skip this episode and the rest of the series. I'd rather keep my memory of the show as it is; a respectable series that managed to attract a wide array of fans.

I really feel bad for the guys making the show. They must be having a rough time.

Well, I somewhat slept poorly last night (haven't been feeling that well, but that's unrelated to the show), but I managed to clear my head a bit more.

Season 3 mainly seems to be setting up things for season 4, so I don't quite understand it when people say this was supposed to be a series ending rather than an season ending. I mean:

- The first two episodes introduces the Crystal Empire
- "One Bad Apple" and "Apple Family Reunion" gave us Babs and the CMC branching out to Manehattan
- "Sleepless in Ponyville" has Rainbow Dash taking Scootaloo under her wing
- "Wonderbolts Academy" has Rainbow Dash finally be a part of the Wonderbolts
- "Keep Calm and Flutter On" focuses on Discord turning good
- "Games boners Play" focuses on the upcoming Equestria Games
- And "Magical Mystery Cure" has... well... Alicorn Twilight.

That said, season 3 doesn't seem to actually put that much focus on where it all will go next. Sure, you see more of the Crystal Empire, Babs made a second appearance after her introduction and Dash's new Wonderbolt career actually somewhat centered on her being a Wonderbolt, but you're going to have to wait until the very next season to see how the rest will pan out. You won't find out how the new Dash/Scoot relationship will work out or how Discord's newfound goodness will affect him and the rest of the show or what CMC Manehattan is like until season 4 rolls along, which won't happen until after several months. The other seasons did a much better job at developing events which you expect to see throughout the show. Twilight and friends get invited to the Grand Galloping Gala? They'll be attending it in the finale. Cutie Mark Crusaders get formed? You'll be seeing them in action throughout the season. New zebra in town? She'll make appearances later as well. Luna turns back to good? Okay, that's more of an exception to the rule.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I really would've preferred if they just went with the 26 episode season, so that they could develop all those things, rather than having to wait until season 4 does this.

On a related note, I think it's safe to say that I can finally come to the inclusion that the season's finale was by far the worst episode of the whole series due to the main crisis being solved way too quickly and messy, and it being musical still not gelling well with me. I still could used to Alicorn Twilight, but I am somewhat afraid her new status will affect her interactions with the rest of the group negatively, as well as any problems she might face to become even larger when compared to the issues the rest of her friends must deal with. The fact that this will be the last episode for the time being only makes matters worse.

Finally saw it today! It was as everyone said, rushed. I liked the songs though. The cutie mark one was cool. I think they did the best they could on such short notice, but when the episode ended I really did ask "Wait. That's it?" It didn't even feel like a full episode. It felt lacking, and not wanting more in the form of a new season, but in a 2nd part ending. But, maybe that's just because I was expecting some sort of villain. Daniel Ingram even said it was a tall order.

I don't like how lot of people are always saying "It's only to sell toys!". I don't have a good way to defend this, though.

But that's the only reason why Twlight became a princess. Hasbro wanted that to happen so they could sell toys. Faust said this isn't what she wanted for Twilight, and as far as I can tell, the show runners are trying to keep the show as close to her vision as possible.

I dunno, I cant in all honesty critique Hasbro for doing exactly what they created the show for.

I saw a commercial while watching Animaniacs this morning.

They stole the 'most interesting man in the world' thing

This is a beer commercial.

this is a kid's show, no matter the fanbase.

Well, if parents are doing their jobs and not letting their kids stay up late and see beer commercials, they'll just think "Oh hey it's a cool commercial for that show I watch" while the older audience (or the parents who watch it with their kids) will think "Oh hey, it's a reference to those beer commercials."

Just got caught up on the 3 episodes I've missed.

Did anyone else really like the design of Ms. Harshwhinny? I think it must have been the non-standard eyes.

Im still surprised over the quality of MLP, Hasbro couldve just made a generic cute show like the other generations, and it would still have made infinity dollars for them. Yeah, not all the episodes are winners, but for what it is, Im honestly surprised.
