Objectively? That's basically the same as critically. Shit, if there's anyone that would be
subjective about this, it's me! And maybe a shit ton of heretics who are touting this as the best episode yet.
I never said that the series is terrible now, although season 3 has been kind of lacking. I'm just saying this episode was really bad. The premise was cool and a musical is something people have been wanting for a while, but this was nooo. The entire thing was nothing but expository song after expository song with barely any time to take in what you just saw. The songs themselves, while a few of them catchy, are pretty lyrically poor. Like, read the lyrics to True True Friend. Kind of dumb. The only one that got me was Celestia's but only because I've grown attached to Twilight over the past few years and the retrospective produced some "feels", as the kids call it. For someone who doesn't necessarily care about her, I doubt they would have the same reaction. OH, by the way, the last 7 minutes are basically a toy commercial. Look at Twilight! She's a princess now! She has wings and a dress and a crown and she can even fly! So, that also means the main conflict of the episode was solved in, oh, 15 minutes.
As I said before, I have no problem with alicorn Twilight.
Here's basically my reaction towards it. Just, okay. Sure. Go for it. That still doesn't excuse a shit episode of a show that's slowly been declining in quality. On the bright side, the only way from this point is up, so...
