You know what, guys? You're right. I can't say the movie will be bad overall. 28 Days Later invented the Rage Zombie as we know it today in mainstream media, and I thought it was a great little survivalist sting that gave zombies a whole new twist; being chased by zombies is bad enough, but if the reanimated "corpse" of your fatass neighbor can now run faster than you and projectile-vomit blood that will infect and convert you in seconds from exposure, you're really up shit creek without a fucking boat.
HOWEVER, I stand firm on two things you guys can't diss me on legitimately. 1) The zombies look like shit, mostly in CG. 2) It backhands the book (and natural laws) so fucking hard, it's stunning. Brad Pitt was supposed to be Max Brooks, the interviewer engaging survivors in conversation post-war and I figured they would've done relevant character flashbacks to experience the book's most interesting recollections (the cynical Chinese doctor, the underwater demo team, the battle of Yonkers, the otaku boy and blind swordsman, etc) to fill in the actiony segments without breaking the original concept.
The film's apparent plot scenario is Pitt playing a completely different douchebag who has nothing to do with Brooks, journalism, the book, or post-war activity. Can't be sure not having seen the movie, so that might just be jumping to conclusions!.. but it looks grim. Pitt is now acting on orders from the military/government to discover the source of the infection- not a totally invalid subject (and could easily redefine the film's standing as a prequel to the book, possibly labeling Brooks in-universe as a propogandist intentionally misguiding survivors that had never encountered the infected, therefore not knowing if they run or shamble), but again, this could've played into the original script retroactively through flashbacks. If they'd just gone with the original design, people who'd read the book would give a thumbs-up for genre savviness because we somnambulists actually know what the fuck is going on.
I'm sorry if you guys are displeased with my current standing, but everything about this film screams left field bullshit: from Pitt and the director's squabbles, to the reshoots and delays that bodaciously went more than $200,000,000 overbudget, to the development hell equaling two years almost, to the various writers and subwriters brought in pulling the script in every fucking direction, to the trailer pretty much casting off the "logical zombie" (as defined by Max Brooks) much like Twilight cast off the traditional Vampire mythology, in favor of something much less appealing. Again, most of this is simply speculation and premature conjecture coming from a genre diehard who has little faith in the media, and I am tempted to see the film first before I strike! That being said, I still stand resolute on my suspicions that it will suck, for very valid reasons thus far.
Ma says she wants to see it, and I know that she's doing it just to fuck with me. I'm gonna call her bluff, and after the tickets are paid for, I'll remind her we'll be watching people getting eaten alive and mutilated on camera. PROTIP: my mother is very, very squeamish. If nothing else, Pitt's hopefully-redeeming acting and ma's reactions to the gore will be worth the admittance price. And I do mean that about Pitt: from Joe Black to Benjamin Button to Tyler Durden, BP is the fucking man. Let's just hope the script wasn't so shitty that it depressed him into phoning it in.

It's also okay to discuss movies in the movie thread.
It's also probably not a good idea to show up to a movie theatre in a mask that isn't for a super hero/star wars/MLP movie.
Also probably not good to protest and argue with people that they have terrible taste in movies. I've seen less reason needed for a fistfight at a theatre.
I at least hope Medic is reconsidering that, even if they still don't like the movie.
It's M. Night Shyamalan directing. That alone sinks the entire movie. The man has produced one single good movie, Unbreakable, not counting Sixth Sense since he ripped that straight off from an Are You Afraid of the Dark episode (yes he admitted it).

I finally got around to seeing the Hobbit yesterday.
They added so much stuff. From what I understand the director tried to include tons of actual LoTR lore in there, right? Though I heard that the Pale Orc or whatever was made up.
I thought it was good overall, but the story arc seemed to focus more on Thorin and company instead of Bilbo, which is awkward considering he's the one, you know, writing the story. I dunno, I think I was focusing too hard on how closely it followed the book to look at the whole movie objectively.

Watched Ip Man and Ip Man 2. The former is not only an excellent kung fu movie, but just a good film in it's own right. It's therefore definitely the better of the two, but Ip Man 2 is still a great action movie. Both films succeed in building strong characters and making you care about them, and have a layer depth through the themes addressed in them (war, oppression, poverty, racism). For any fan of kung fu or action movies, this is a must watch as the choreography is simply stellar in both movies, but I'd recommend especially the first to any one.
Post subject: this movie was actually pretty subtle and deep

I really underestimated Tropic Thunder, it gets better every time I see it.
I'm watching some behind-the-scenes shit with Robert Downey, Jr. AS Kirk Lazarus AS Lincoln Osiris, exploring Lazarus AS Osiris continuing to blur the line between acting and insanity, which is making me wonder if who I'm watching is RDJ or Lazarus. I don't know if this is improvisation, planned, or what but goddamn it's hilarious.
